Nice 6 speed NB vvt with cel on SF craigslist

Have you guys seen this one for 3 grand?
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/5460350900.html
Looks pretty nice, says cel for cam sensor. I wonder if the crank sensor is just caked with crud and he's getting p0300.
I want to buy it so bad but I don't have space.

18psi 02-25-2016 12:36 PM

Nope usually not crank sensor
Usually vvt/cam issue

177k miles, 3k isnt even a killer deal tbh

sonofthehill 02-25-2016 12:40 PM

How tough of a fix, possibly something like Lars' cam issue? I will admit, I know nothing about the vvt motor.
Thanks Vlad!

sonofthehill 02-25-2016 12:43 PM

Everyone around here seems to be asking sky high prices.

curly 02-25-2016 12:56 PM

Is this the "intake cam too advanced" code? You knock the cam ring on the back of the intake cam advanced (?) until the code goes away.

18psi 02-25-2016 02:14 PM

0300 is multiple cyl misfire, so it really could be anything

curly 02-25-2016 02:18 PM

Oh ignore me then.

sonofthehill 02-25-2016 02:21 PM

I am not certain that is the code he is getting, just a guess. I bet you guys are right and it is a vvt cam issue. He posts his number, I figured someone with the space could call and ask what the code is, I thought about it.
Mind if I ask what you guys paid for the 2001 100kpa?

sonofthehill 02-25-2016 02:22 PM

My wife would be pissed if I spent 3 grand and brought home another miata anyway.

18psi 02-25-2016 02:26 PM

100kpa is Thumpetto007's car, I just do mods and tuning on it :)
No idea what he paid, the car is from Utah or something.

I'll probably get bored of my white 01 SE soon and be selling it LOL, so if anyone is interested hit me up and make an offer :giggle:

curly 02-25-2016 02:26 PM

I paid 5k for a 2001 with 185 that was in great shape, zero modifications. Needed a wp/tb job but I would of done that for anything over 100k.

thumpetto007 02-25-2016 10:14 PM

I didn't even search my name today, Savington, but I stumbled on this thread...

I bought the 100kpa car (I call it my little jellybean) for 7500 in Oregon, with 74k miles or something on it. It was in complete disarray, and I did almost every maintenance item immediately in the first months of ownership.

I should have let the car go, since the original owner didn't want to go down in price. Buuut whatever, I have a decent car now.

sonofthehill 02-26-2016 12:49 AM

I paid 3400 or 3600 for my 99 with over 200k a couple of years ago. It was extremely well maintained and seems as though it may have been blessed with unicorn semen at one time.
Thanks Thumpetto, but I am sonofthehill, just some dumbass noob. Savington is TSE if I'm not mistaken.

Well, maybe not the 5speed, noisy as hell.

sonofthehill 02-26-2016 10:56 AM

You're right as usual, Vlad. This one just got posted, looks like a much better deal, and right in my neighborhood.

I have to stop looking at this shit or my wife's gonna kill me. Funny thing is she's the one that asked me to look for a cheap beater miata for her friend.

18psi 02-26-2016 01:43 PM

:giggle: np

scenturion 02-26-2016 08:41 PM

That $3500 silver one with nice mods sold near-instantly.

sonofthehill 02-26-2016 09:07 PM

Yeah to quote Vlad, that one was "a killer deal."
The first one is gone now too, oh well at least I don't have to worry about the wrath of my wife. :slap:
