Sprite with 1.8 Miata motor in it...nice

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/car/736441939.html

is that awesome or what...but not for $10K

LOLA - 92 07-01-2008 09:33 AM

The guy is out of his fucking mind, if he thinks that is worth $10,000. P.O.S.
I might be tempted to buy it for $1K or 1.2K - You would have to go through the whole thing to find out what all is fucked up with it...

Wife: You need to sell that damn car. You never use it and it's taking up space.

Husband: I'm trying, hon, I'm trying. I have it advertised. It's just not selling.:jerkit:

Braineack 07-01-2008 09:48 AM

needs more boost and 275s.....

I dont think I could marry a woman dumb enough to accept that.

Funny aside: my gf asked me the other day out of the blue (and she didn't really know because I haven't ever discussed it) if I had spent more money fixing up my miata than I paid for it (I bought it new--which she did know).

I told her I'd honestly have to sit down and calculate it because chances are it's at least close to that number. She didn't flinch. :bigtu:

That's actually not a bad price. Bugeye Sprites have gone up massive in price, and I bet that one is more reliable than most ;)

Zabac 07-01-2008 02:15 PM

It is still a shitbox though, that car is rough. I'd like to have one as a toy someday, but I would not pay $10K for a shitbox that needs a massive rebuild as soon as you get her home.

kotomile 07-01-2008 03:16 PM

Did you hear about the Lucas three-position switch? Off, dim, and flicker.

Why do the British drink warm beer? Lucas refrigerators.

Lucas, inventor of the first intermittent wiper.
Lucas, inventor of the self-dimming headlamp.
Lucas ignitions: the original anti-theft device.

Did you ever use a Lucas vacuum cleaner? It didn't suck.

etc.

icantthink4155 07-01-2008 03:32 PM

...whats with that shifter? and the back bumper is crooked...

LOLA - 92 07-01-2008 03:47 PM

RPM's are 4300 with the engine off - Just think how fast it goes with the engine on. And what happened to the trunk?

The_Pipefather 07-01-2008 04:04 PM

A sprite is a beautiful car, as are most sporting british cars, but they are just too unreliable to do anything useful with. But someday I will own an all-original mini cooper.....anyone who's been in one will tell you that its the closest thing to a go-kart you will find on-road, classic and new Loti included.

Massive rebuilt? I don't understand. That isn't "rough," it's a driver. This is a rough bugeye. This is cherry. what you posted is a decent, non-show driver with a more reliable motor. Not a steal by any means, but not a rip-off, either.

No love for the classics around here, geez.

I've heard them all, and have had my fair share of Lucas let-downs. However, I did drive Detroit to SF to Houston to Boston and back to Detroit in an MG Midget (mechanically the same as the Sprite) several years ago. Not one breakdown.

The gods were smiling on you.

I do got love for them, I just think there are a lot of question marks with that particular car, that's why I dissagree with the price. For $10K i'd rather buy the rough one you posted and build it myself to my liking.
You are paying a premium for someone elses project that is not near completion, it just doesn't make sense, kind of like buying a half-assed boosted Miata. Only god knows what all you will have to change out after you buy it.

I'd rather buy this and swap a 1.6 miata engine in.

That'd work -
A platform that is in much better shape than the sprite
Plus, you would save yourself around 16,000 Bones

Zabac 07-02-2008 02:31 PM

 that is an awesome deal!!!

Rafa 07-02-2008 03:45 PM

Dan, I got my first ticket in the US with one of those while going to school in Tampa in 76! A very close friend lent it to me while I was there. Good times.

Thanks

Zabac 07-02-2008 04:04 PM
