Default Transgender 6 year old?!

A 6-year-old girl is now leading the fight against gender discrimination | Lindsey Bever | Comment is free | guardian.co.uk

No six year old comes to the conclusion on their own that they shipped with the wrong naughty bits. The parents who convinced this poor kid that he was really supposed to be a girl are child abusers.

They should be arrested for child abuse.

Maybe having just two black and white definitions of gender, is the real issue?

Considering gender is entirely dependent on reproductive organs I don't think it can be defined in a non black and white way. We call all of the other differences personal characteristics

This is actually one of the few aspects of life as a whole which can be absolutely and unambiguously defined in binary terms.

I'm entirely open to various interpretations of sexuality (eg: heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, asexual, braineacksexual, and an infinite number of variations which lie across a broad continuum), but when it comes to gender, you either have a Y chromosome or you do not.

It's pretty straightforward.

From a strictly biological standpoint, sure. Gender identity and physical gender aren't the same, however.

Genetics are weird. Read something once about how X and Y don't really denote gender. There are genes that can turn XX females into males and XY males into females. So in reality if those genes are "odd" you can be XY and still be a female. I'll be honest I don't really remember the details so I may not be remembering it correctly.

Seven six two millimeter...
Full metal jacket...
People who focus way to much on their gender issues need to focus on other more important issues.

I'd imagine it's similar to asking if gay people have a DNA difference.

Regardless of the many different ways you can be (and perceive yourself to be) different, how can anyone be sure of anything at the age of 6?
After puberty it might be easier (but puberty as what?).

Gender start to be tricky in sports where some XXY XYX or whatever it is are female in most aspects but male in others. Anyone who performs well and is not "normal" will always be scrutinized.
Without searching I think there were some test developed (or just discussed) to assess gender from the Olympic sport perspective, free from old school obvious things like chromosomes and physical attributes.

"Gender Identity" is a made-up (and poorly named) construct.

One might as well create the theory of "hair identity" to describe the phenomenon whereby some blonds elect to die their hair red. That's all fine and well, and they're free to do it, but this does not make them Irish, and they are still not eligible to receive titles of Gaelic nobility (nor should they be.)

Gender is an absolute concept, determined by a roll of the biological dice at the time of conception.

But the X and Y chromosomes themselves don't denote gender. The genes packed inside them do, which are subject to... variations.

Interesting. I initially thought that you were incorrect in saying gender identity is made up. So of course I went to Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender_identity

For everyone else, if she wants to be a girl instead of what she was born as, why do you care? Is she oppressing you?

everyone is gay. we should all allow our children to reproduce at age 6. we should stop allowing teachers to use the words male or female. we should should only have unisex bathrooms. we should outlaw the following: gender based groups, organizations, sports, leagues. we should legalize: inbreeding, pedophilia, monogamy, bestiality, slavery (including) sex slavery, among other things. then the world will be nirvana. please work on this ca.

I'll get to work on the pedophilia and bestiality. Pretty sure y'all out in virginee have already got the inbreeding thing under control.

Also, monogamy is already legal in all 50 states.
