One of the things that we Democrats have a really hard time is connecting to people’s hearts instead of [their brains]. When you have a really hard time doing that and one of the reasons that was shown to me at one of our retreats was that we Democrats know so much, that is true. We have to kind of tell everyone how smart we are and so we have a tendency to be very left-brain. |

The president does not have anything to do with state budgets. Many states that voted for Bush had Democrat state legislators.
That chart also includes spending on things like military bases which red states have in higher proportion. That bullshit chart has been debunked many times over. |

To be clear, I'm not a huge fan of President Trump. And I'm also slightly annoyed (as a member of the media) by constant, shrill claims from the uneducated masses that "the mainstream press" has a political agenda which is somehow furthered by character attacks against the President. To be clear, we DO have an agenda, but it's purely ratings / profit-oriented. I know this is hard for some people to believe, but I actually attend the meetings at which we in upper-management decide these things. Which, to be fair, is true much of the time. Today, apparently, it's become popular to criticize the President for being quiet, stoic and dignified during a moment of great national solemnity. Honestly, stuff like this makes me glad that my TV station prides itself on a clown and a sock-puppet. |

One quote from the story below, from a woman who was outraged by this blatantly constitutional display, struck me as especially ironic: "I suppose it is their free speech rights to do that, so I can't deny that.
