I do. But I wanted to listen to this one while sitting at my desk at work.

Also, I am astonished by the lengths to which some people will go to create children...

Me too. There's already far more children than people who want them. It's like the narcissistic notion of buying a dog from a breeder when hundreds are being put to death within 100 miles of most people every week.

is it mean anytime a parent makes a comment about me having money, or taking a trip, i make a point of saying it's because i don't have kids?

Nope, when I was still married (and thusly much more disposable income), we lived in a very modest home, drove new cars, went to the Caribbean at least once per year, etc. Fancy dinners, fancy booze whenever we wanted, etc.

I had friends back then that made much less than we did and bought twice as much house and then wondered why they could never do anything.

So I think too highly of myself because I want a specific breed that is almost never found at a shelter. If one does arrive it's gone within hours or days? I used to check often at a larger local AHS and gave up wasting my time.

Gotta love Gary Larsen. Do you think he foresaw the present generation's difficulties in dealing with real life?

Well, it certainly isn't in the best interest of the dog or dogs in general. "Kill all these inferior dogs and make a new one for me to enjoy because it pleases me."

Look for a particular breed rescue if you must, but actively breeding more unless they are working dogs for livestock or sledding or such is not good. It is akin to saying "I could only value a blond headed child and should allow all other inferior children to be discarded."

I care not for the analogies between dogs and children.

I tried to find a softer quote from CK Chesterton, but only found this one, which is a bit strong in this instance, I admit.

“Wherever there is Animal Worship there is Human Sacrifice. That is, both symbolically and literally, a real truth of historical experience.” ~GKC: 'The Uses of Diversity.'

I draw a pretty hard line between people and earth’s other creatures.

I do as well, don't get me wrong. I just found the analogy of choosing who lives and dies due to genetic traits to be such an obvious comparison. I think the real problem I have is so many good dogs being put to death through no fault of their own. I find it frustrating that more of them cannot be saved. Supporting the activities of breeders seems counterintuitive because it promotes the death of so many more. I guess I was lashing out because of the emotional distress I feel because of my last two visits to the shelter. Imagining 70 percent* of those dogs not being adopted and being euthanized and having their bodies stacked was difficult for me.

My apologies for the excess drama. No personal attacks were intended.
