It's better to be a victim and both parties live than to kill the aggressor.

Only 15 shootings in 2013 in gun-free Chicago.
The list: 15 people shot, 3 fatally, on New Year

I saw that. Too bad calling out the problem (black people shooting black people) is considered "hate speech".

And to top it off, Chicago is working to drive a quick lame duck session law through banning almost every type of gun, registration/tax/mugshot etc....

Braineack 01-02-2013 08:05 AM

they also increased the hourly street metered parking rate from 5.75 to 6.25. lol. I'd shoot up a block too...

rleete 01-02-2013 09:04 AM

Luke just took out the meters.

This is specifically why I need an AR15 apocalypse weapon.

I was a bit surprised at the number of fatalities in that link. I dug a little deeper and it looks like China has had a much higher incident rate of school "rampage killers" and mass murders.

There was about 120% more incidents (22 vs 10) but only 26% more deaths and 49% more injuries. Of the 10 incidents in the USA, only one had zero fatalities. Of China's 22 events, 4 ended with zero deaths.

If anything, to me, I think the Chinese events are even more horrendous. In some ways, using a firearm is more "clinical" versus trying to butcher dozens of little kids with a knife, axe or machete.

Also interesting, there have been 2 school massacres in the USA since 2010. One of those was in California and the shooter used 10-round magazines [edit: and a handgun]. He killed 7 and injured 3.

I think how it's done is relevant. I think it's also worth pointing out that it's really more about the "permanent" lower income/lower class/inner city types than just "black people shooting black people." Granted, most of the people are probably lower class blacks, but not exclusively. I did link to one article previously that went in to more detail on the topic.

I think it is important to discuss the concentration of firearms related homicides in those ghettos, though. The focus should be on figuring out how to break the mindset that those inhabitants have that they can only better their lives via crime. Also, reducing the opportunity for career crime might help with that (a la decriminalizing/legalizing some drugs).

Just like the "fiscal cliff" negotiations, the gun banning debate seems to be focused on the wrong thing. Instead of trying to figure out who should "suffer the pain" of major cuts in the fiscal debate, they should be focused on how to get growth and employment growing (which will largely take care of the deficits).

Instead of banning guns, the people concerned about the firearm related deaths should be focusing on why so many people commit suicide and why so much of the crime is concentrated in small geographic areas.

I was going to post something along those lines, but being a Tea Party supporter, I'm already labeled as a racist and troublemaker.

Agreed. The constant media blitz of how "the man" is holding down people of color is most of the problem.

I grew up in suburbia. My parents moved there to get us kids out of the city. We couldn't really afford it, financially. As a result, if I wanted something like a bike, I had to go out and get it myself. That meant selling myself at damn near slave wages and doing every dirty job in the book. I washed windows, scrubbed bathrooms and did landcape work. I sweated and ached to earn the 20 bucks for a used bike.

Nowdays, we hand everyone a prepaid cell phone like it's nothing. The idea that you don't have to work, and work hard to get ahead is what holds certain minorities back. Because working for money is for chumps.
