Default Fast Food Workers Strike

Fast-food workers strike, protest for higher pay

Fast food workers around the country are protesting and they want $15/hr to run the cash register or dunk the french fries. I cannot even imagine the ramifications of more than doubling the minimum wage overnight.

Haha I got the m.net discussion on this shut down. I mentioned minimum wage laws and a mod told me that discussing laws was too close to politics. I told him he might as well shut it down if we weren't allowed to mention minimum wage laws while discussing minimum wage, and so he did. Cracked me up.

Man that place is idiot central sometimes.

If I ran any of those restaurants I'd fire every single one of those employees and put a huge sign out front that said:

Help Wanted
Start immediately.
No skills required.
Great pay for easy work.
Tremendous customer service training
that will carry with you for a lifetime.

I like that sign. And if I ran one of those restaurants, I would replace anybody who protested.

If you are easily replaceable, you are probably being paid fairly. If they cannot replace you, then you can ask for more money. You have to make it cheaper to pay you more than replace you.

Which is where the problem with their argument is. You have a job, and it probably pays about right for the skills required, but if it isn't enough to live on then you're out working toward a higher-paying career.

Job=/=Career

I forgot, there's be a disclaimer on the sign.

*If you can't live on this wage, you should have been better in school and got a better job.

I'll put my next paycheck down that says 95% of the people working fast food has MORE than one thing they don't need, and / or is more expensive than the one they need.

Maybe minimum wage should match the average income of people on welfare..... Then we could all get raises, and everything could be even more unaffordable for everyone! Yay!

If minimum wage was lowered people would get raises because anything > $0 an hour and being unemployed.

Not sure if you're serious, but that's completely false.

If I were to be fired today, $7/hour would be considerably worse than $0 and unemployed, because $7/hour won't pay my bills AND I won't have time/energy to look for a job that actually CAN pay my bills.

I like how they're encouraging people not to eat fast food to support the cause. I feel like 90% of the people that reads that are going to stop by and grab a few $1 hamburgers on the way home today.

$7 an hour is worse than $0 because at $7 you don't have the time to look for something better?

God, are you one of the picketers?

Yes, finding a job takes time. So does working.

If I have to work 40 hours a week at $7 AND find a job, when will I **********?

Maybe that's where the special sauce comes from.
