Russia is... Russia.

I don't mean for that to sound trite. You expose a society to 75 years of totalitarian rule, then plunge it into something vaguely resembling a free-market, democratic state overnight, and ****'s gonna be weird.

So far as I know, Russia is a totally unique* example of sociopolitical upheaval in modern history.

* = I'm obviously excluding East Germany, and the rest of the border-states. Germans are obviously German, and the rest of the orphaned former-Soviet islands aren't faring any better than their deceased parent, they're just too small to matter in the broad scheme of things.

If you want to sign up to be ruled by a f***ing mafia, you do it. It’s like being governed by FIFA.

Georgia, the state of wanting to regulate your ejaculation:

(I've no idea why the 55 year age limit is relevant.)

It's not.

It's one of those "screw you" bills created to get attention, after GA passed a law banning abortions after the heart has begun beating. Kind of "if you wanna regulate my womb, I'm gonna regulate your *****."

My point of view: don't live in Georgia and then act all surprised when state laws reflect an ultra-conservative, bible-belt mentality.

EDIT: Here's a link to the actual bill, hosted by the Georgia State Legislature website, so you can verify its authenticity: http://www.legis.ga.gov/Legislation/...0192020/HB/604

Last year they were a c unt hair away from electing a very left wing governor who was interested in prohibition of gun ownership, as much as she could effect it. Very polarized election from what I understand. Atlanta metro is so sprawling and full of transplants that much of the state is not so country as many think.

Newark aims to become first big city to roll out universal basic income

This should be interesting to watch. I mean, it hasn't worked for literally any country or city that's tried it, but hey, that doesn't mean it's a bad idea. It just hasn't been done right.

(Also, as a former NJ resident / NYC worker, I can tell you that Newark is... well, it's Newark. Comparing it to NYC is like comparing Newark to NYC.)

Serious question. How does this solve poverty?

How will it not makes things worse?

They also recently enacted laws and created a council to oversee / prevent displacement due to gentrification. Not sure how that will work. Still, they are making an effort to just not keep $$ out like AOC did, but rather prevent the ill effects (as they perceive them). I saw a list of the areas of control, and rent control was the worst. Education parts were good.

They may well be trying to do to much at once, such that the effects will be hard to dissect. But yeah UBI just won't work. There are too many people that really do not want more from life but to have a BI and legal pot.... maybe some sex.

I saw a Hawk Newsome on Candace Owen's show. He was not as far left as I had expected for a BLM guy. Still, I don't see the total picture of the black community trying to bring back separate but equal. It's like, If you are a white group, you have to let black folks in, but if you are a black group, you can prevent white folks from coming in. Equal access and equal opportunity, but you stay out of my culture.

https://www.prageru.com/video/the-ca...-hawk-newsome/ (sometimes you have to load twice to get it to play).

What I wonder is whether Mr. Baraka has considered a likely unintended consequence of implementing a UBI over such a small and already impoverished area: they're going to get an influx of people who don't have (or want) jobs from the surrounding cities.

I mean, it'll be great for NYC. All of the homeless are gonna away anchor and move west. It's only about a four hour walk from Midtown.

And it'll be even better for Hoboken, Jersey City and the other coastal bedroom towns. Unemployment and vagrancy is gonna drop to zero immediately. Hoboken won't even need a police department any more, other than to issue citations to people who forgot to pay the annual tax on being able to park their car.

Remember when political speech was considered to be one of the most sacred and inviolate forms of speech?

Well, Rep. Devin Nunes (R, Calif) is suing Twitter for $250 million, because someone created a Twitter account named Devin Nunes’ cow
and tweets (under the guise of being a cow which lives on a farm, mind you) a combination of true facts and satirical roastings of Rep. Nunes.
