Newsworthy:

I am removing a very nice electric dimmer switch today in order to run CFL bulbs...

shock and awe.

CFL's lifespan is ridiculous... I installed on in an outside light that is on 24/7. I believe we are going on 3 years and counting. This includes me having to empty it out twice because it was so full of dead moths that you couldn't see the light anymore.

well, I'm much enjoying the 23watt 5000°K temp lights I put in the fixtures in my hallways.

In my bathroom I have 2 overhead BR30 bulbs and I want major lumens... I found CFLs that works perfectly and lit up my pretty face very well so I can curl my eye-lashes much easier, but problem was since it's on a fancy dimmer they buzz at anything but 100%. I returned them for some 75watt halogen BR40 spotlights, and while the light output is stellar, they are melting my face off.

There's two things about CFLs that irritate me. This right here is one, the second is this ridiculous temp stuff.

I miss being able to just walk into a gorramn store, buy any old light bulb off the shelf I wanted, and then being able to throw it into a light socket. Now I have to be aware of dimming BS (Uh oh, you need *specialized* CFLs for this apparently!), and temperatures (......All I want is a damned white bulb.).

I love the idea of CFLs in *theory*, but damnit, it badly pisses me off that I am having trouble finding 100w rough service bulbs plus the above. I don't know if my stores locally put their heads up their asses or what, but I used to be able to find tons of 100w rough service bulbs, now I'm out and having to order from amazon.

you have no idea how many times I've been to the store in the last week buying and returning bulbs.

I actually just bought some on the internet today...

All I want is brillant blinding white light...i dont care how efficient/inefficient it is, I'm paying for it.

I love the temp stuff on CFLs because I'm able to get white lights, not "trodlgyte yellow" bulbs. I have 6 23watt 5000°F CFLs in my foyer and it's ******* amazing.

That's...actually a really great point Brainy. I never thought of it that way.

I still dislike the idea of having the various temperatures, I'm no interior designer. I just want white light, but you are right. The CFLs I use are definitely whiter and brighter than the old incandescent bulbs I used to use, even if I am at the point of frustration with them where I just buy any old CFL bulb without bothering with temp.

Yeah I used to buy only GE Reveal bulbs, but they are hard to come by and the remaining 65watt ones are expensive and have crap for lumens.

you can still can yellow burning 2700°K CFL bulbs so be careful.

I very happy at 5000°, There are higher ones, I've even seen a 6500° but they actually cast blue light... the 5000° ones I got honestly like like the room is lit up in natural daylight, so much so I've been confused when I look out the window to a overcast rainy twilight.

What light bulbs would you recommend for a room that rarely sees any daylight? Remember, I live in a basement in South Florida. I would want a natural feel, nothing too "office".

2 questions.

1) Why did Sammy let this go to a jury? Is there legal team retarded thinking that "impartial" Americans would ever choose anything other than Apple?

2) How the hell did Sammy let an actual patent holder get on the jury? Is there legal team retarded?

I am not a lawyer, but seriously?

Leader of Army Plot to Assassinate Obama Apparently Attended

I'm really, *really* hoping we get over the extremism and sensationalism in the US shortly. I can already predict how the media reporting on *this* story is going to go...And it's going to make me facepalm the entire time.

Mississippi's anti-price gouging statute in effect

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) -
If that gas seems much higher than usual, you can report it as price gouging and state officials will take action against the vendor.

That's because of a proclamation drawn up and signed Monday evening by Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann and Governor Phil Bryant.

Hosemann said, "What it really applies to is gas and food price gouging that may go on by some unscrupulous people who try to take advantage of people trying to get out of their homes, so as of 5:19pm, anything south of interstate 20 will be covered by the Governor's proclamation."

Hosemann says there are already gas shortages across south Mississippi. He says to report possible price gouging to the Attorney General, MEMA or the Secretary of State's office.

Attorney General Jim Hood offered a tip for people who suspect price gouging or home repair fraud.

"Best evidence for us to prosecute someone is use of those cell phones, use those cameras. You know, if you see an instance that you think is price gouging, make that picture, you know, email it to our office. Use a video, you know, if you're dealing with say, for example, home repair fraud situation and some contractor comes to your home that looks a little bit shady, not some local contractor that you know, whip out that smartphone and just video what he says he'll do. You know, most of the time if he's a crook, he's gonna take off running. He doesn't wanna do business."

Hood says his office has received some complaints. He says most price gouging complaints involved hotel and gasoline prices and he cautions people not to take advantage of people fleeing Isaac.
Emergency situation? Scarce, vital resource?

I know! Let's use the penalty of law to keep the price at normal levels.

Don't worry, Uncle Sam has your best interest at hear and will no longer allow you to buy the Edison bulb.

Acutally, they are easier to find today, the Edison bulb is back in style. They are always low wattage anyways so you dont burn out your retinas.

As tropical storm Isaac takes direct aim at my hometown of New Orleans, I predict two inevitable occurrences.

First, depending on the severity of the damage done by Isaac, prices of staple goods such as gasoline, bottled water, and plywood will spike in south Louisiana and Mississippi – price increases that will (here’s the prediction) spark a litany of economically uninformed laments about greed and “price gouging.” So this New Orleans native offers here his thoughts, from April 2005, on price gouging. No need to thank me.

Second, again depending on the severity of the destruction caused by Isaac, faux-wise commenters – some of whom are on economics faculties – will advise us all to understand the upside of Isaac’s destruction: a ‘stimulated’ economy. My vanity nudges me here, as above, to share with you some earlier thoughts on this matter.

LOL@that first article.

Of course, merchants can voluntarily keep their prices below market levels. But to do so would be not only harmful but also unfair! If a grocer refuses to raise the price he charges for bottled water up to the market level, he will find his store besieged by consumers. Only consumers near the front of the line will be lucky enough to get the water; those closer to the rear will go home empty-handed. Is queuing a fair means of deciding who gets the water?
No, of course not! Those things should be decided by who has the most money, of course! Much more fair that way.

I guess that depends on your definition of fair (and the size of your bank account).

A true fair way to do it would be random drawing, which has too much overhead. After that, first come first serve is as fair as it gets. There is nothing more fair. Raising the price so that most cannot afford it is by definition not fair.
