Seriously... I mean, statistically the odds were always in my favor that I'd experience a world without Fidel, but actually being in the time and place in which it has happened is almost indescribable. I don't expect people who can trace a complete family tree to be able to understand this feeling.

A lot of Perezes didn't live to see this day. In fact, a few of them were put to death by firing squad during the revolution. But those who survived are ******* exploding with joy right now.

I literally can't even summon the words to describe the feeling of this day. Elation doesn't even begin to cover it. I'm trying to think of something witty to say here, but I just can't. I'm still teary just thinking about it.

Burn in hell, you ******* communist *******.

Communism is just a thin veil for tyranny. Don't give him credit for being anything other than a tyrant.

The thing that pisses me off is all the praise bestowed on him for his accomplishments and contributions to history from all these world leaders. Sounded to me like they were envious.

I started losing faith in Trump already but his sentiment on this **** of **** is on the money. Maybe Trump might carry through after all.

A good friend of mine escaped Cuba in Operation Peter Pan as a teenager. They stole all of his possessions out of his suitcase. It arrived empty. His grandfather was wealthy, owning a bakery and a couple of other businesses and the apartments above them. Everything was confiscated, including the family home and all bank accounts. His mother helped the CIA and was held in prison for a while. She made it to the US eventually with help. My friend said many of the people from the neighborhood were picked up by Castro's people and not seen again. Some of his family was executed.

And I challenge anyone to point to a communist government that was not tyrannical. They always seize power through drumming up class division resentment, promising equality of outcome but always end up with a group of people holding the wealth and screwing the poor. Screwing everybody, actually.

And just when you thought Kaepernick couldn't get any worse. True ignorance is bliss.

“Usually, I just try to play my game. But I did try to hit him,” Alonso told the Miami Herald following the game.

Kaepernick entered the stadium and took the field to an incredible amount of booing from the Miami fans after he previously praised deceased Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.

Clearly, Kaepernick’s praise of the former Cuban despot did not go over well with some NFL players.

"I'm a Muslim, it's not what the media portrays me to be. If people look at me, a Muslim praying, I don't know what they're going to think, what's going to happen. But, I don't blame them. It's the media that put that picture in their heads so they're going to just have it and it, it's going to make them feel uncomfortable. I was kind of scared right now. But I just did it. I relied on God. I went over to the corner and just prayed."

said the terrorist who ran over students and tried to stab them to death.

I'm not saying it's not terrorism inspired, but the late teens to early 20s is when a LOT of mental illness starts to appear. I work in a hospital (I was hospital security for a number of years and I still assist when they are overloaded) and I see all the time where kids come (with no prior mental history) with paranoia, hearing voices, or with some really altered mental states. It's sometimes accompanied with drug use but most often it's not. I can't count how many times I have met a kid who thought he was divinely inspired or who had a calling to some great cause. Thank goodness rarely they were divinely driven to cause violence.

If this kid was already primed to feel like a victim of persecution it's not a big leap for me to envision a routine mental episode causing him to believe that the only course of action would be to hurt people in retribution. A lot of speculation on my end of course, but mental illness is far more common than radical terrorism.

tough question: murderous dictator or freedom lover

“I mean, right now I don’t think Donald Trump is very good, and I know that Fidel Castro has done some good things for the world so I’d say he’s proven himself at least in the long term to be more favorable,” one student opined after referencing Castro’s health care reforms in Cuba.
“I would say, at this very moment, I have, um, a better opinion of Fidel Castro,” professed one student, even after expressing her concerns about the repression of his people.

Cuban police have detained dissident artist Danilo "El Sexto" Maldonado, once declared a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International, after he made a video celebrating the death of Fidel Castro, a dissident human rights group and the artist's girlfriend said on Monday.

My high school made the news.

apparently there is an objective teacher trying to teach students why one would be deported.

FCPS teacher asks student "Are you legal? Or illegal" immigrant | WUSA9.com

The child wrote that Trump "judges people by their race and gender...Trump can kiss my ***. I am thankful for the life I have and my family (which Trump is trying to deport because we are Hispanic, but whatever)"

When she got her paper back, the teacher had written this next to the line about deportation: "If I may ask, Are you legal or illegal? If depends on that factor for deportation. I hope you get to stay!"
