Angela Davis Says She’s ‘Stunned’ After Award Is Revoked Over Her Views on Israel
Angela Davis, the activist and scholar, said this week that she was “stunned” after a civil rights group in her native Birmingham, Ala., reversed its decision to honor her with an award amid protests over her support for a boycott of Israel.
Professor Davis, once a global hero of the left who has since earned renown for her scholarship, had been selected for the human rights award months ago by the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, but the group’s board rescinded the honor on Friday.
In announcing the move, the institute did not offer an explanation, saying only that “she unfortunately does not meet all of the criteria on which the award is based.” But Professor Davis said in a statement on Facebook on Monday that she had learned it was because of her “long-term support of justice for Palestine.” The revocation of the award, she added, was “not primarily an attack against me but rather against the very spirit of the indivisibility of justice.”
In a statement expressing dismay at the controversy, Mayor Randall Woodfin of Birmingham said the decision had come amid “protests from our local Jewish community and some of its allies.”

That's how this works.
If you are a member of a group with which I identify, then you are probably a victim of something. If you are a member of a group which I perceive as a vile, then you must, by default, be part of the reason for the aforesaid victimization and your existence is therefore unjustified.
That's the scary part right there. It's not that I don't like you. It's not that I don't like what you say or believe. It is that I want you to not exist. Those are the gas chamber operators right there. And suddenly there seem to be plenty of them on the left in America. I don't like it because it threatens our entire society and many people's very lives.

In fact, I've oft thought that if I were given access to a time machine, I wouldn't use it to go back and kill Hitler or anything noble like that. After using it to make millions of dollars in the securities market (obviously), I'd then use it to transport a bunch of students from present-day Berkeley, who are demanding segregation and censorship, back to Berkeley in the 1960s so that they can witness first-hand what actual oppression is like, and try to justify their position to their then-teenage grandparents who are actively fighting against segregation and censorship.
The Jewish Question is also an interesting one. Historically, Jews in America have tended to sway heavily towards the democratic party. Today, however, it has become increasingly fashionable within the more liberal factions of the party to adopt a stance of "brown people are oppressed victims of white society, and we must never, ever, oppose or question their views." Where this becomes interesting is when you consider the fact that the more extreme theocratic members of majority-Muslim nations (and nations in which Islam is legally required to be practiced), happen to be brown. And, of course, some of these people still cling to the view that the Jews are a plague which should be exterminated, and that the nation of Israel is illegitimate.
And what makes this complicated is that those people do have some valid talking-points.
The present-day country of Israel was in fact created, from scratch, by treaty, by western nations during the post-WWII reorganization of Europe, by annexing land which was claimed by other nations at the time.
So, bearing in mind that by the western liberal mindset, any colonialist action undertaken by the evil white patriarchal oppressor is unjust and must be opposed, said individuals find themselves in the rather unique position of defending a pro-genocidal viewpoint, while feeling that they are quite morally correct in doing so.
This is no surprise, really. People who intuitively believe that "I am inherently just and right, you disagree with me, that makes you evil and worthless and you must therefore be suppressed" have always been dangerous throughout history.
It makes little difference whether their hat is pink or black.

Very difficult to find middle ground between two when one wants to coexist and be left alone and the other wants the first one dead.
Again why a lot of their rhetoric out of the black clothed demonstrators is a trifle dismaying. Especially when the people they think are ***** or fascists are not actually ***** or fascists.
I know they stopped teaching logic in school. Certainly a few of these students have to be questioning what they're told?
I'm a realist. You only need so much, and when committing major temporal crimes, it's important to stay below the radar with regard the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Time Court.
You REALLY do not want to get on their bad side.

As to Braineack's post, as much as I am ashamed by the fact that Donald Trump represents my country on the world stage, he has managed to keep the Federal Government shut down for longer than any other president in US history, which is an achievement to be commended.
There's a tiny little part of my psyche which wants to believe "Maybe, after enough time has gone by, a lot of people will recognize that this is actually a good thing!"
I'm a pessimist by nature, though... At least where matters of politics are concerned.
