I see "poor" people that pay no taxes, yet have things I can not afford. This is where I want to see the cuts. Fewer handouts, less charity, more incentive to work and share the burden. |
Since when does wanting government to stop abusing the general welfare and interstate commerce clauses mean we want to abolish the government entirely?
You're simply engaging in question-begging, Joe. You've assumed that if government reduced or removed its regulating hand, things would just go to shit, and therefore anyone who suggests that government is too intrusive isn't being practical or realistic. |

I read nothing in this thread but the title. And I'm pissed. I drink a gallon of milk a day... that is more fuel than I use... so this is a more pressing issue for me!!!!!!
Wait wait wait....

To be fair this isn't a completely unreasonable assumption, given the economic events of the last ~10 years.
Claiming the recession is a result of deregulation is a Democratic Party talking point, not a serious economic theory. |

And if you read the right blogs and articles, it's possible to become convinced that pretty much every single facet of government is evil and must be abolished. That's all fine and well from the standpoint of an academic term-paper, but as a practical matter, we really can't go and dismantle the entire government. It may not be perfect, but it beats anarchy and chaos.
The armchair abolitionists don't seem to acknowledge that fact. |
