Volunteering for a political campaign

Anyone here ever volunteer their time for a political campaign? This is something that I'm going to be doing soon and it would be nice to have an idea about what to expect or even things to try and avoid for whatever reason. What have you done and for whom were you helping?

I'm pretty sure YOU'RE not going to be allowed to do that.

You are in the military, no? I think that's what he means by that.

If you're in the military you cannot volunteer for a policital campaign.

I'm ex-military.
