What did the election do (or not) in your state?
In Maine we got a new senator and legalized gay marriage.
|
Gay marriage and table games about a mile from my house.
|
CA is still going to shit. Nothing changed
|
Florida stayed more or less the same, ignorant.

I really didn't mind that Bill Nelson won the senate seat because I honestly didn't like either candidate. I was more disappointed that the amendment to opt out of the individual mandate for Obamacare was overturned. Although it wouldn't have actually mattered given the Supreme Court's overruling decision it would have made a statement. |
VA amended its Constitution to prevent the State from enforcing eminent domain for private/profit use in the name of jobs or better economy.
In Norfolk the State had been forcably taking land and giving it to Old Dominion University, even when the campus had no plans to expand or take the land. Basically contractors were coming in with plans to build, having their low-ball offers to purchase denied, and then went to the State to get what they wanted through the legal use of force. They made off with awesome deals on property/land and then finally pitched the dea to the University. It passed with flying colors. But unfortunately the State can still use eminent domain in the use of public use, ultilities, and in cases of public nusance. Otherwise, all the incumbents of the House won their seats back, and the Pres. and Senate went blue again because of the heavy urban populous. |
CA:
-passed an important sales/income tax increase to prevent major education cuts and close our state deficit -strengthened penalties for human sex traffickers -softened our "three strikes" law so you don't get life in prison for petty theft anymore -passed a law requiring companies based out-of-state to pay income tax based on the revenue generated in-state (basically closes a loophole) |
-passed an important sales/income tax increase to prevent major education cuts and close our state deficit for exmaple, didnt they just promise to spend the same amount in deficit spending to some high speed train to nowhere? I suspect TX and NV are going to get a surge in populous. |

Legalized the possession of up to 1oz, manufacture of up to 6 plants, and use of marijuana by anyone over the age of 21; requires it's distribution through State Revenue offices whereby it will be taxed much like alcohol.
reverse the 2010 Supreme Court Citizens United decision Passed an amendment that instructs CO Congressional members to propose and support an effort at a national level to repeal the Citizens United decision. Enabled the Governor to make political appointments to 325 more State offices than he/she was previously able, bypassing an election for those offices. |
Locally we passed about $2.5B in bonds, 80% going to schools.
Replaced retired Kay Bailey with another Rep. Senator. EDIT: Yeah for Colorado and Washington! |
MI:
the repeal on michigan’s emergency manager law is to close to call yet no collective bargaining no increase in renewable energy spending and we're not letting that no good scumbag "matty" build a second bridge across the Detroit river. |
Legalized recreational marijuana for those over 21, and same sex marriage.
Times is a changing, I think for the better. |
In for first lawsuit filed agianst some stoned teenager killing a bunch of people in a car.
|
The initiative in Arkansas came a lot closer than I thought it would. 48.5% for, 51.5% against. Too bad.

I don't have kids but I always tell my friends to have their kids get Miatas because they can only haul one passenger at a time. I had a pickup truck as a teen and it was loaded with kids way too many times in high school. The drinking age for 3.2 beer in Kansas the year I lived there was 18. High school seniors could buy and drink legally. |

Now that we have our personal freedoms lets continue to punish, oppress, rule, persecute, and lynch the businessman, and ignore the irony.

I agree that most if not all of the amendments were overstepping. The only one I really wanted through was the individual mandate one as it would have been more of a statement than anything. I was also really hoping the one about state funding for religious groups was going to fail, which it did.
|
MA:
-voted out a truly bipartisan senator for a qualified but whiny liberal figure head (not shocking) -voted against intellectual property (ballot 1 - right to repair) -voted against humane end of life (ballot 2 - assisted suicide for the terminally ill ... fucking Catholics) -voted for medical marijuana (ballot 3 - which begs the question: WTF happened on ballot 2?) I'm hoping Colorado/Washington's move towards legalization leads to critical drug reform ... way to go! -Zach |

I like the fact that most of the amendments were rejected. I would have been in favor of all 11 of them being rejected as even the ones that were approved ("property tax relief to low-income seniors, disabled veterans and spouses of deceased military personnel and first responders") did not belong in the state Constitution. That's not the place for tax policy.
All that do gooding would not be doing good for our state (or will not for those amendments that passed) |

Californee also:
Rejected Prop 33, which would have allowed auto insurers to adjust rates based on driver history (makes me sad), but we also Rejected Prop 37, which would have resulted in more BS labeling requirements for food that don't actually accomplish anything, which makes me happy. Sadly, the aforementioned tax-loophole-closure (Prop 39) isn't actually going to help the state budget. Most of money being confiscated from the productive businesses is earmarked for greenwashing projects, and there's really no accountability attached to it. Just more tax-to-spend politics. |
I think what people should really care is Measure B plus Prop 30 is going to effectively move the porn industry out of CA, along with most other business...
and then ill laugh when they don't quite recover the 6 billion in extra revenue they project. and then ill be all like, the laffer curve is a fallacy. |
Nah- Measure B applies only in LA. The porn stars are welcome to join us down here in sunnier San Diego.
Sidebar: I predict that Jackie Treehorn (and others) will begin shifting their focus away from "pornography" and towards "educational films." |
yeah, but NV doesnt have 13% income taxes for those producers.
|
I don't think people live in LA because its cheap.
|
TX was republican in the pres race
North TX was almost completely republican except for Dallas and the new district which is like central DFW. I know right....CRAZY |

The savings of state tax payer money has begun. Imagine that, not locking up people for non-violent non crimes and filling up the jails and the legal system. I think Violent crimes will drop as well because the industry won’t be so lucrative for violent criminals to be in and can you say tax revenue.

I don't smoke (weed or pole) but am happy that both are allowed in WA now.
