Sales tax has the one distinct advantage of hitting those who otherwise slide by without paying. Those that get paid under-the-table, those that make their money from illegal things like drugs, etc.
But, even with the raping I got this year, I can't complain too much about the taxes. It's the uncontrolled spending and blatant waste that are the real problem. |
Agree about the spending. The spending is the more important discussion, than the method the taxes are collected.
Today there already are a bunch of people who avoid taxes by being paid under the table. And less yachts that have tax write offs because they are "business expenses". But I think with a straight sales tax there may be fewer total dodgers. Especially if the cost of gov't were only say, 15%. |

And this is why I can't take flat tax proposals seriously. Quote some ridiculously low rate that won't even provide basic services in our current government as a way to sell your plan. |
