Default Why has fuel gone up .30 in the last week and a half?

Last week I filled up for 3.40ish, driving around today most of the gas stations are 3.70+. Highest I saw for reg was 3.93 today.

So what is the excuse being used by the speculators this time? Is it the debt "crisis".

I was wondering the same thing. I filled up for $3.39ish the other day and paid $3.63 yesterday.

The “evil corporations” can’t make “obscene profits” unless they care about something else – what their customers want.

Customers almost always want the same thing from every company – the best possible goods/services at the lowest possible price.

The companies that best deliver this do well. The ones that do not, do not.

Pretty simple stuff. Problem certain companies cannot operate like that. OPEC likes to drive up the cost of the barrell of crude oil. and low refinery production drives up the price at the pump.

want to know what prices have gone up a little lately:

A planned flaring event will take place between July 18 and July 27 at ConocoPhillips 140,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Wilmington, Calif., according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District. It wasn't known which unit, or units, would be affected.

A flaring emissions event was reported by the Texas Commission On Environmental Quality due to an upset with two fluid catalytic cracking units at ExxonMobil's massive 562,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Baytown, Texas. The flaring took place from 1 pm to 3:34 pm Saturday and caused feedstock to the units to be minimized.

An unplanned flaring event, caused by an upset unit, at WRB Refining's 146,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Borger, Tx, took place for three hours on July 13, according to the Texas Commission On Environmental Quality. It wasn't know which unit, or units, were affected.

Shell Oil Company's 125,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Martinez, Calif., experienced instrument problems on July 13, resulting in unplanned flaring at an unspecified unit, according to a California Hazardous Materials Spill update. Flaring was located at a light oil processin unit.

Another unplanned flaring event took place on July 12 and 13 at ConocoPhillip's 110,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Wilmington, Calif., according to the California South Coast Air Quality Management District. No particular unit was identified and no market reaction was evident

Tesoro reported a planned flaring at it's 110,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Wilmington, Calif, beginning 6 pm pdt Monday through noon on Tuesday, according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District. It wasn't known which unit, or units, might be affected.

A check valve failure occurred on a coker at a 155,000 barrel-a-day refinery owned by Valero Energy Corp in Benicia, Calif., at 10:15 am pdt Monday, resulting in the release of 518 pounds of sulfur dioxide as reported by the California Hazardous Materials Spill report. No significan market impact was evident and the duration is unknown.

Trading sources doing business with Exxon Mobil Corp. indicate the number one hydrocracker at it's 560,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Baytown, Tx, was returned to service over the weekend after the repairing of a heat exchanger over the last two weeks.

CVR Energy Inc. (CVI) reported an "unplanned emergency" at its 115,000-barrel-a-day its refinery in Coffeyville, Kan., that resulted in flaring on Saturday. A spokesman declined to comment on whether the incident impacted production.

Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) expects some impact on production at its 344,500-barrel-a-day refinery in Beaumont, Texas, after a July 5 electrical malfunction affected a processing unit, a company spokesman said, adding that customer commitments should be met.

BP PLC (BP, BP.LN) told Texas regulators July 8 that it is bringing catalytic reforming unit back to normal operations at its 475,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Texas City, Texas. BP said June 21 that the refinery would return to full capacity by August after an April power outage left it running at half capacity.

Sunoco Inc. (SUN) said in a filing to regulators that a compressor on a key gasoline-producing component at its 335,000-barrel-a-day Philadelphia refinery was shut down July 6. The company declined to specify the duration of the incident, which occurred at the facility's Point Breeze unit, or say if it affected production. Sunoco has been restarting the reformer and hydrotreater at the after starting unplanned maintenance on the units that began on June 19.

Husky Energy Inc.(HUSKF, HSE.T) said July 7 that it has restarted its 155,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Lima, Ohio, after shutting it June 27 to repair a leak in the crude distillation unit furnace. Running at 80% crude intake, the facility is expected to reach full capacity in the next few days.

PBF Energy reported its sixth emissions incident in as many days on July 6 as it works to start its 190,000-barrel-a-day refinery in Delaware City, Del. In state filings, PBF said the latest incident involved 181 pounds of sulfur oxide released as it started a compressor. PBF bought the facility last summer and had planned to restart during the quarter ended June 30, but it missed that target and has given no new estimate for production.

Alon USA Energy Inc. (ALJ) reported excess opacity amid maintenance at its 67,000-barrel-a-day Big Spring refinery in Texas, according to a Thursday regulatory filing.

ConocoPhillips (COP) said the 362,000-barrel-a-day Wood River refinery it operates in Roxana, Ill., is still running at reduced rates following a June 25 thunderstorm that knocked out power there. ConocoPhillips also reported a failed blind on an isolation line that resulted in emissions on July 4.

ConocoPhillips told state regulators that the 146,000-barrel-a-day refinery it operates in Borger, Texas, may have higher-than-normal emissions during planned maintenance on its Unit 29 electrostatic precipitators between July 6 and July 16.

ExxonMobil said July 5 that production is lower at its 60,000-barrel-a-day refinery in Billings, Mont., because of a rupture in the Silvertip Pipeline that delivers crude from fields in Wyoming and Alberta, Canada. The company declined to say how much output is curtailed or when the refinery could return to normal rates. Exxon did say it is looking for alternative sources of crude in the meantime.

North Atlantic Refining Ltd. extended the turnaround at its refinery in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, by 10 days, delaying the restarting of its 115,00-barrel-a-day facility to the end of July, a spokesman said Tuesday.

Motiva reported flaring early Monday due to a shutdown waste gas compressor at its 233,500-barrel-a-day Norco refinery near St. Charles, La., in a government filing made public July 5. The effect on output is unclear.

Tesoro Corp. (TSO) told California regulators to expect intermittent flaring at its 97,000-barrel-a-day Los Angeles-area refinery between July 7 and July 11 while unspecified but planned maintenance is performed.

Exxon reported flaring July 1 at its 238,600 barrel-a-day refinery in Joliet, Ill., according to a government filing made public July 2.

BP PLC (BP) said a continuing problem at its 405,000-barrel-a-day refinery in Whiting, Ind., caused emissions July 1, according to a government filing made public July 2.

Exxon reported a July 30 shutdown of the hydrocracker unit at its 560,640 barrel-a-day refinery in Baytown, Texas, according to a filing with state regulators made public July 1.

Considering the US still has the cheapest gas prices, I would say compaining about a small increase in $$$ is out of perspective.

Agreed. If we were paying a couple of euros per liter (or whatever the going rate is in the EU countries that aren't getting their credit ratings dropped by the hour) , I'd be damn near poor. As long as it's not 6 a gallon, I'm content.

Gas was what, $1.50 in 2000, now it's $3.50...after inflation ($1.18 a gallon), that's an increase of 296%

To all those saying "we still have the cheapest gas" blah blah blah
Brain hit it on the mark.
It is not the small increases, anyone with a pulse that understand business expects that, but the %increase is what is bothering people.

So is the fact that record profits are being made when claims are being made that price increases need to be made to not loose money.

The inelastic deman curve is what is causing it.

What needs to happen to stabilize or bring down prices is for is for the price to hit a point where demand drops off sharply. This hasn't happened yet and prices may continue to creep up until it does....

Or for the Democrat Party to stop blocking construction of new domestic refineries and to stop blocking domestic oil production.

Our refrigerator is full of good food but our children are malnourished so logically we should kill a few of our children.
