$225 to extrude hone turbine housing?
Sheesh.
5 years ago I paid $80. |
coarse reusable sand paste is expensive these days.

hell... I'm thinking of building my own machine. all it takes is a hydraulic ram, a bunch of sand/gel mix, and a plate to hold the parts. seems like it would be pretty simple to build from surplus parts.
What pressure do they normally force the stuff through at? I'd assume less than 50 psi as some manifold might blow the welds over 25 psi ;) |
If you do a google search you should be able to find some old write-ups from 5 or so years ago that describe the process in some detail. As I recall, if was more than 50 psi...but don't remember the "reported number". The Extrude Hone process may be overrated...the process results in a uniform smoothing of interior surfaces that may not always be the best solution from an airflow perspective.

In the case of the turbine snail, it works very well, supposedly. Even Garrett says it's worth a couple points efficiency, which is a lot in terms of spoolup.
