¿new turbo? (TD04 v/S VF34)

That's the question.
Now I'm running a TD04 very very good at 10 PSI, killing stock 2.0 and 2.5 WRX without a problem.

A friend of mine, offer me a used VF34. I don't know much about miatas with that turbo (only read experiences on WRX).
well, any help will be apreciated, the major concern is to lose the actual spool up (that's is very good for me)
By the way, the used VF34 turbo cost about 470 USD.

470 is not a bad price. it is WAY better as far as midrange/topend compared to the td04 and still maintains nearly same spoolup. ive tinkered with a LOOOONG list of subaru turbo's and beleive me: vf34 will be a day/night difference imo....

btw, wanna try a 2.5L wrx? ;)

Are you "nordschliefe" on cardomain by any chance?

VF-34's aren't rebuildable (at least not in the US, anyway). I vote against disposable turbos.

If you're only running 10psi on the Td04, though, you're not even close to getting everything you can out of what you've got. 10psi is fine to taper to at redline, but you could easily be getting 19psi out of it in the midrange.

No, he's a friend of Alex (that's his given name). Alex hasn't posted in any of the forums he visits here in quite some time. Last time I was in contact with him was at the forum he set up in Chile.

I already told macanha once to send my regards to Alex, nice fellow! :bigtu:

Good point, this turbo is not 100%. Maybe hard used, but is not bad at all. Probably in some time y loose the investment. (that´s the reason for the good price).
The idea for this turbo (VF-34) is to drop the presure and get more mass of air, at 10 psi.
¿How can I get 19 psi on a TD-04 only the in the midrange without AVCR?

And Rafa, I told alex you greetings and he was very happy to hear about you. He can't remember it's user name and password on this forum. hehe

Well, you could just set your boost controller to 19psi and leave it at that. It'll taper boost all by itself toward redline. I wouldn't recommend that, though.

Get real engine management with a proper tune and you may very well find the gear you've got is more than satisfactory. That same turbo moved my 3,200lbs 2.0 liter WRX from 0-60mph in under 5 seconds. Properly set up it should motivate your miata quite nicely.
