1.6 External wastegate turbo manifold options

Hi guys, been looking for an external gate manifold for my 1.6, T3 flange is prefered. Havent been able to find anything of substance.

MetalMuffins 07-20-2018 01:07 PM

I assume that is because anyone who needs an external WG isn't going to use a 1.6. The first step to putting an external wastegate on your 1.6 is installing a 1.8 :bigtu:

crash12190 07-20-2018 01:08 PM

Anyone with anything of substance?

brainzata 07-20-2018 01:17 PM

You should realize, you can find it if it is out there, by google searching. There is no reason to make a thread asking a question like this...

crash12190 07-20-2018 01:21 PM

Well, by google searching, i have returned nothing, I made a thread here to see if anyone who has encountered similar issues has found a solution.

Why do you want an external wastegate?

crash12190 07-20-2018 02:56 PM

To run a bigger turbo, With a t3 flange most turbos that are ball bearing are only external wastegate, Id like to run a bigger precision, but will require a different manifold or cutting up my cast log manifold and welding it in.

MetalMuffins 07-20-2018 03:03 PM

Honestly, I think cutting / modifying the existing one will be your only option other then having one made. If that's the route you want to go, check out here: https://www.miataturbo.net/fabulous-...-thread-72795/

sweet, wasn't trying to be a dick guys, just really bummed with options for the little 1.6

huesmann 07-20-2018 04:09 PM

Is there really any point to running a big turbo on a 1.6?

crash12190 07-20-2018 04:27 PM

sure, the head design isnt anywhere near as good as later 1.8 engines, but others (mr.mattman and greg from car passion channel) have made big power on them. Matt's car is stock head with a built bottom end, making over 500whp.

Didn't greg do ~300whp on a 2554? Not a big turbo and not exactly big power. I still don't see why you think you need EWG. What is your whp goal?

crash12190 07-20-2018 05:42 PM

Id like to be around 400, but if i had to go the t25 route i would, just not what id love to do

Plenty of IWG turbos are capable of 400whp.

ryansmoneypit 07-20-2018 06:04 PM

An efr for one, is a t25 and will make 400

Yep, 6758 would be my first pick.

crash12190 07-21-2018 10:45 AM

awesome guys, thanks for the help

ryansmoneypit 07-21-2018 01:52 PM

I think the 6258 would be better for the 1.6 IMO

He won't make 400whp on a 6258.

Excuse me, but are these dumb clueless questions and statements seriously being asked/stated by a CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL TUNER WHO TUNED 30+ Miata’s in his area?!

 from your very first post you were a clueless mattman/broke n boosted fanboi. Should’ve at least done enough research to not be so blatant and at least appear like you know what you’re doing

What’s funnier is that just about every single noob who claimed to know something ended up being more clueless than your average high school sanceboi
