Hi guys, Iv got a problem... I recently bought a kit from "mxslide" on the "mx5nutz" forum (a begi kit) and have had it installed on my car by Nick at skuzzle motorsport in the uk. Now iv got a problem.. hes insalled everything which consisted of:

HKS T25G turbo
Begi Cast iron manifold
Begi 2.5” Mild Steel Separated Gases Down pipe
HKS 150mm mushroom air filter
Toyota COPS (replaces the standard coil pack)
Dual feed fuel rail
Mazda RX7 550cc injectors (flow tested and cleaned)
4.0 bar map sensor
MS PNP stand alone ECU with air temp sensor
Greedy Profec Electronic Boost controller
AEM Wide sensor and gauge
Custom mounted (2.5” inlet/outlet bore)
Cat replacement pipe 2.5"

And this is where the problem has started.. he started the car up and it started to smoke on idle and when put on the dyno as soon as it got in to boost its started to smoke badly from the exhaust to the extent where it smoked his workshop out.. and stunk of oil. plus was leaking oil from the dipstick hole (I think this was due to me taking the dipstick out and unsettling the o-ring when I went to install my old fm kit before hitting a load of problems and returning to standard)

the first thing he did was to compression test the engine and it came back at 13bar dead (I think he said) accross all cylinders and there is no oil in the cylinders or the intake as far as im aware of so the headgasket seems fine etc

Now the first thing id suspect would be the oil seals on the turbo however the past seller seems completely adament that it was "absolutely fine" when it came off his car and I doubt highly that the seal would of gone within the few months its been sat waiting to go on my car (mainly due to being a metal seal like a piston ring) however It could be the case.. I have called CRTURBO's which is my local turbo shop and they told me it could also be crank pressure problem not letting the oil drain back out of the turbo however Nick has said that he has taken the PCV valve out and put a filter on like the above setup and upon inspection he took the downpipe back off the turbo to find oil moisture in the back of the turbo/downpipe.. any advice/help would be much appreciated! bit of a pain as I was supposed to use the car this weekend to take the other half away... but now looks like there is no chance!

any options/opinions/things to try before ripping the turbo out and sending it away to be inspected/rebuilt would be great

Sounds like a turbo issue. Are you running an oil restrictor with that setup? Is the turbo journal or ball bearing?

Yeah thats what I was thinking.. and im "assuming" it has one fitted as it was already running on a car for quite a while however I will double check with nick tomorrow, and its a journal bearing.. (4 bolt t25g)

AFAIK journal bearing turbos typically do not need a restrictor, but it may still be worth a shot adding one to see what it does.

Interesting! I didn't know that... stragely enough just as you said that I had this posted on the nutz forum.. im going to see about the restrictor tomorrow

Installer screwed up the oil drain line. Or the turbo is blown, but I'm leaning towards the first thing.

oil pressure/drainage issues.

from previous experience check and going through 4 different good turbos, chekc your return line ... its either kinked or it has restriction
