Default 1.6 VLSD vs. 1.6 Open Diff

Hello. Is the 1.6 VLSD differential any stronger than the 1.6 open diff. I have a 1993 turbo miata at 182 whp now and I want to go to 200 whp. I am wondering if the vlsd is any stronger than my open diff.

Thanks!

No. Most VLSDs are worn out by now as well. If going through the trouble swap in a superior 94+ unit.

I managed to find a non blown VLSD April of last year. It's already burnt out and I put less than 20 events/5K miles on it. Not worth it.

Honestly, I'd just save up for a torsen. You really don't have to worry about them wearing out as much as you would as a 1.6 open or 1.6 vlsd. Yeah it could get kinda pricey but my vlsd on my 91 recently blew up (keep in mind that my car is stock so like 90whp) so I said screw it and saved up for a 4.3 torsen (with the driveshaft and axles) from an 01 nb so the gear ratio's dont change. If your diff is about to go, a torsen makes the world a difference.
