I guess I should at least run the car before I do anything! (It might even be ok as it is now.)
It will be another month before that happens as there is 3 feet of snow around.

you should look at any modern bimmer muffler and then think back to how you made your exhaust and then what you just suggested.

when it comes to you, you'll ---- bricks.

Ok so what about the same thing but instead of a wga can you run a throttle cable to it, and set up the rotor wheel thingies such that it starts gradually opening only past say 30% throttle?

This way you floor it = and its fully open isntantly instead of waiting for boost and sabotaging spool

Still a great idea. I'd do it again if I wanted stock sound and appearance...currently don't care about teh loud and my ---- looks stock anyway. You'll still get pretty much full boost with it closed but yep it won't happen til later, does not mean the car will be a slow pile of crap with it closed, only laggy. Just won't be as nasty as it can be with a gaping 3" dump hole.

Comparatively slower, but quicker than stock nonetheless when closed. Full flow is just the flick of a switch or a couple psi away. An electric valve obviously wins in the absolute flow right now battle as it can be opened before you get on the throttle, but with a very low response pressure it would be almost as good when using a wg actuator.

But this is all irrelevant, as you appear to be against the idea altogether.

Damn.

My understanding is that it will still seal better than most of the electric cutouts due to always having the spring pushing it down vs the motor shutting it closed and not having constant tension on the flapper.

LOL
so basically what Andrew said: giving up spool and area under curve for quiet-ness.
The electric cutout is starting to look like a more attractive option.

That's what I was talking about in OP, and Jason has one, and I am considering it as an alternative

:(
If I didn't live in CA I'd be driving one now.
The more I try to consider "v8 miata street car" and "smog/dmv/stupid cali laws and regulations" the more it becomes "race car only no exceptions". The thought of a corvette has been floating around in my mind, a c6 with exhaust would do me perfectly, but whats the point in having a stock car with just xhaust? boring. There's also the Datsun 240z option, but finding a clean non-rotted shell for less than like 3k is nearly impossible. ugh

I'm still trying to find loopholes in the system and somehow weazeling my way around the bs, but its not looking good.
Calaveras or Tuolumne county. I just moved back to Tuolumne from Sac area last year. You smog a vehicle once when you buy it and never again unless you're selling it to someone other than family. When I bought my miata, it had no cat, I had the guy fill out a transfer of title between family member form. No smog, no taxes or fees. $15 transfer and pinks in my hand with infinite smog.
Get a P.O. box in Tuolumne or send me monthly nudez and you can use my address.

Just give up and sacrifice spool and be done. You're not going to go over 250hp anyways so just run a baby turbo and wait 1000RPM more and run a baffled muffler and some convoluted mazelike resonator.

Or even better, just run stock exhaust. Go for the stock exhaust power record. I dare you.

Fae, I'm going to get a garret gt1241, run 1" exhaust piping, and a compressor inlet restrictor and go for the miata horsepower record

Or how would it work if the valve was normally open and closed by vacuum?

You could always buy a Prius. They're real quiet at low speeds.
