Default What Should I Do With This Down Pipe????

I got this from a forum member but it's not what I had in mind. It's going to take some fabricating. I'm just not sure what to do. It's missing O2 bungs and needs a flange to hook up to the cat. But I think it's to short to reach the cat. If it lines up with the stock DP should I just cut it, put a reducer on it then a flange? Or should I just move on. The only problem with getting a new one is I think the manifold is a custom job so getting one to match up with the wastegate might be tricky. Oh, I should mention that I have no welding equipment (one propane tourch) or experience. Help!

It's a garrett t3/t04e .57 turbo. The nearest muffler shop is about 15miles away. Is that to far? Will there be any problems with just having o2 sensers hanging for that long of a drive?

leave the downpipe on, don't drive without a downpipe! but no it shouldn't really hurt anything, probably won't run very nice, will be very loud, maybe a cel but won't hurt anything

i did it and the nearest muffler shop was about 17 miles away you could get a bung put in before hand for the 02 sensor you will be surprised how quite the turbo makes you just of the dp. dont run an open turbine though that will melt alot of stuff in the engine bay not good.

I think of ton of us here have installed DPs that didn't reach the cat and had to drive to muffler shop to get fixed.

Mine cost $75 for them to weld a 1' section, flange, and WB bung to complete the DP.

Well that sounds pretty hopeful. I just need to find a reliable muffler shop. Now if I could just find an intercooler and piping I'd be ready to start putting it all together.

Wow, that looks like hammer sh*t... Manifold looks fairly nice quality though. PM me and I may be able to help you out.

My solution - BeGI manifold and a GT250R turbo - was to have the muffler shop fab up a compleatly custom system for me in 2.5 inch exaust metal. I got them to make the downpipe a seperate piece with a 'ball and spring' type connection and then (no emissions issues here) a straight run to the back barrel (Dynaflow sports barrel). In the down pipe they installed a bung for the O2 sensor. I then heat wraped part of the downpipe and then painted the whole piece in heat resistant silicone based paint and voilla! One lovely system.

Oh, total cost which includes making the exit from the turbo (flange and design supplied), all weilding and parts, but not the final barrel was $475.00

If I can get the stupid car domain site to allow me to upload some more pics they will be there for your viewing pleasure!

Is the wastegate exhaust to close to the turbine exhaust? I've read in Bell's book about it being bad to have it close and a member also pointed it out to me but for 7-8 psi how big of a deal if it?

Shouldn't matter at that boost level. An EWG is overkill from a flow standpoint but might be better for boost control.
