18psi = Vanishing oil?

So, as some of you may know, I have recently turned up the boost to 18psi. It's been running that way for about 2 weeks now (including one trip to the drag strip.)

Well, it seems that this has begun to take a toll on my motor. Although, it could be a coincidence and I could have a massive leak somewhere. Either way, I've lost about 2 quarts of oil in the past week to week and a half. I checked my oil early last week and I was about half a quart low so I added about half a quart. This was the first time I had added oil since my oil change about 1500 miles ago.

Today, I pull up to the gas station and while the gas is pumping, I decide to check on the washer bottle to make sure I'm full up on methanol and I also checked my oil. To my surprise, there was no oil on the dipstick after I stuck it back in. :facepalm: So, I go back to the trunk to grab a quart and I realize that I had taken everything out of the trunk before going to the track. Well, scared for the life of my engine, all I could do was baby it home as I really didn't want to mix royal purple and the shit they sell at the gas station. So, I start the car and listen to the lifters, they don't sound TOO unhappy, so I proceeded to drive the 3 miles home, very cautiously at as low of rpm as possible. I got I home and put all the royal purple I had (about 1.5 quarts) in it to bring it up to the low mark on the dipstick. Tomorrow, I'm going to change the oil and hope for the best. Then for a compression test. :sad2:

It could be blowing out your PCV valve in the valve cover. During my last dyno session, I noticed a nice cloud of blue smoke being emitted while in boost and I'm now "using" some oil. I'm thinking of installing an oil catch can and you might want to do the same.

18psi stole your oil?

Lol, as if driving home with an empty oil pan is better than adding some cheap oil to your royal purple.

How about an oil leak? Or as as suggested, the PCV system.

BTW, a compression test will tell you absolutely nothing in regards to oil consumption.

I think a compression test is the automotive equivalent of "take two aspirins and call me in the morning"!

I think i would notice a leak that was that significant. However, it's a possibility. The reason that i am going to do a compression test is because i want to make sure the rings are okay.

actualy you leacked a good bit on my driveway dude didnt notice it till you left. prob a cas oring or something either that or loose turbo fitting. To loose compression you would have to realy fuck up the motor i doubt it happened the most is prob alil bearing galling.

:werd:

I'd guess lubrication from cheap oil is better than none... and you said it yourself, there wasn't much royal purple left.

Alright, so i got the car up on the lift today and there are no major leaks. The only thing leaking is the front main seal and that is a very small leak. Either some gremlins stole my oil or i'm burning it. However, the car doesn't smoke at all.
