2876r questions

So there is a guy local selling his 2876r really cheap. Im already turbod on a begi chinacharger and was considering this as an upgrade. However im on a stock block right now. The future holds a built block but until then.... is this turbo pointless to snatch before hand? But my lil churbo with a broken fin and china journal bearings probably spools just as slow as the garrett. What do you all think?
1.8 cast hks mani, divided 2.25/1.5 downpipe to 3inch, hard pipe intercooler piping 2in hot side 2.5 cold. 565cc injectors, megasquirt etcetc.
Opinions?

Anything is better than the begi Shanghai charger. The sizing was awful on those things.

Ted75zcar 05-10-2018 08:54 AM

What are the specs on the Begi churbo? What is the ex A/R on the 2876? The 2876 with an 86 ex on a 1.6 is going to push way out to the right.

edit, looks like you have a 1.8, so not as bad

edit again, you will most likely be like 3rd or 4th island to the left with a 76 compressor (48trim), so that is not great.

Keep it below 10psi and your motor should be fine. Will spool a bit slow. You won't get anywhere near the efficiency range on the turbo.

This is what I was thinking, it doesn't hit peak 9psi boost until close to 4500. The broken blade, and really conservative tune doesn't help though.

73 Trim

This is the 2876
Turbine

Thats what I've read assuming my block likes me. I'll probably be getting a dyno tune a few checks from now if nothing breaks so I'd like to get my turbo situation sorted before hand.

Ted75zcar 05-10-2018 10:22 AM

Wow, that begi turbo isn't the best.

Yeah, I can't see it getting any worse. The bigger turbo will probably spool faster at this point.

EDIT: He just told me that the 5bolt housing is a .86 housing and not the .64

Ted75zcar 05-10-2018 10:33 AM

Well, I guess I would consider the price point. The hardware is superior, but there are better options even from a churbo standpoint that might result in better performance and thus satisfaction. $300 on a mismatched good turbo doesn't necessarily provide better results that $300 on a cheap well suited turbo.

Ted75zcar 05-10-2018 10:35 AM

Lol, I can't think of a single application where that begi turbo makes sense.

Once I got it and started tuning I realized just how bad it was when I was only adding fuel way up top. Then it runs out of breath up at the very top. Car feels quick, but only for a couple thousand rpms.

Although it might be a weird turbo size, I plan on building more power down the line.

Here's some spool data although on a vvt head, it's really not all that bad. This is with a .64 housing though.

Going from one mismatched turbo to another seems pretty silly to me

It is, and I'll be honest, I'm scared for the reliability of the turbo I have now. It leaks the slightest amount of oil, but the big problem is it's missing 1/3 of a blade. This just seems like a good route to get out from under this turbo. I've been hoping a 2560 would pop up but no luck and no money for a 500+$ turbo right now. Between school and bills I'm sitting on a 400$ budget to be honest. And would rather not go sr20 turbo as I'm already beating my friends at the same boost level with this shit churbo (probably my mad tuning skills). Are there any //decent// china turbos? I've heard good things about twistedmotion and others like isr and they seem to have ok budget turbos. But I don't want to go from unreliable to unreliable either.

tl:dr: Maybe its worth it going from unreliable/mismatched to reliable/mismatched?

Edit: looking at it, your little turbo gif is a 2876 isn't it?

18psi 05-10-2018 10:57 AM

want power
don't have money
need reliability
don't have money
not willing to give up power
don't have money
the circle of noob

sounds like you just want us to tell you what you wanna hear. in that case, I'd probably go with the mismatched garrett over a different chinacharger because they're all gonna suck in t2 config
What "good" have you heard about those chinachargers? that they're better than the begi chinacharger? well, a diarrheal turd is better than the begi chinacharger

BEGi sucked so bad that they changed their name. they're called MaxG now. Hopefully the suck a little less with their new name

Well, at this point I'm not building, I'm fixing a problem so it's not a save a little longer like it was building my turbo kit it's a what is the best I can get for the money right now. I agree that if I had the funds it'd be a manifold change and efr, but we don't all have that money just sitting. I'd keep the turbo if the blade hadn't broke off during shipping to and from getting coated. It's just that my last car sent turbo blades through the motor and I don't want to do that again ya know. I should start a new thread. My question about how shitty the turbo has been answered, its garbage, but not SUPER garbage. My new question is, is this the best way to spend the avalible turbo fund or should I be looking at other options like just replacing the wheel and rebuilding the begi?

Very, very different.

Are we talking like 500+rpm difference? Seeing as I have a less flowing head as well. Were talking like 4200 max boost starting around 3000? Yeah that's kinda garbage if that's the case. This is also a daily driver, with 0 track time. All I do is the occasional roll racing which sometimes favors a bigger turbo.

18psi 05-10-2018 11:41 AM

At no point whatsoever should you even consider putting any more money into the begi churbo. Ever. It’s that bad

Haha fair enough, so your telling me it'd make a cool turbo lamp project then?

borka 05-10-2018 11:50 AM

There is a s15 2560r on zilvia right now for $150
has bent compressor blades, but you can send it out to swap wheels and then you're good.

Thanks, I'll check that out!
