3" Exhaust flanges
So what does everyone use for flanges on DIY 3" exhuast systems?
The stock flanges are a bit small. I was thinking maybe a standard 3" SBC style header flange. --Alex |
I use Vibrant Stuff.
Http://www.vibrantperformance.com Let me know what you need and I can get you a price. My buddy works there.. |
3" 3-bolt from jcwhitney or eBay if I can find them. Typical "hot rod" stuff.

i'm a permanent convert to V-bands.

i dont like how vbands try to affect the performance of my wallet
|
One disadvantage of vbands is the adjusting factor that's touted as the advantage. There's only one way to put my 3-bolt exhaust back together once it's been apart. With a vband, I'd be adjusting the dp up at the turbo for clearance at the transmission...:dunno: And yeah, the cost. I've picked up the 3 bolts on eBay for as little as $3 each, shipped.
|
how is that a disadvantage? my shit's home built. it's not perfect. it needs adjustment!
|
Once it's built to fit properly, it will always go back together the same way... there's hardly tolerance with a 3 bolt vs. vband. There's only three ways to put a 3 bolt back together. ;)

Have a 3" catback and 3" pipe, planned on a full blown 3" turboback, but after I received the flanges from Weir (my Cat inlet flange is STILL MISSING....) the biggest pipe I can fit to the flange is going to be a hair over 2.5" and at that point will have to squish it in a bit for the 4 bolts.. Then I found this: http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/gr...LS-029_450.jpg On ATPTurbo's website.. Its 60$. The other side of the flange and v-band clamp is an extra $39.00.. I really don't want to spend an EXTRA $100.00 on the downpipe but it would make fabrication a lot cleaner, slightly adjustable, and removing the turbo would be VERY easy.. Instead of taking out 4 bolts in a tight hard as hell to reach position, just pop off the clamp and slide it off.. Assume you'd make the decision to spend the extra money and do it?? My only worry is the flange I have to weld onto the downpipe might warp and leak, but I don't know. I've never messed with v-band before... |
