3" exhaust prior to install

I'm piecing together my turbo crap and making calls for favors for friends on welding work to save some dough. Point being...I have someone in Austin(an hour away from me) that will be making my downpipe and exhaust. I can't exactly take home a 4' downpipe and 5' exhaust in the miata home with me so I'm wondering if it would be okay to rig up the 3" exhaust to bolt up to the stock cat...use a test pipe and then take the dp in the car. I'm assuming there won't really be any negative affects of a 3" exhaust on an n/a besides low-range power loss and obnoxious sound.

That is all.:bang:

Pretty much. Loud and obnoxious but that's about it.

Drop the top and throw it in the passenger seat.

My low range power wasn't negatively affected far as I can tell with 3" catback. I bought the Enthuza TurboRacer setup and didn't wanna wait for my turbo to install it, so I did. With a moderate tune its a shit load faster than a stock 1.8 miata is, but damn.. That exhaust is *LOUD*

Loud is a bit of an overstatement...when M.net people talk about the stupid loud exhausts...its the 3" catless on a NA car. lol

but still, wth, just bring ear plugs and rock it on the highway home. :D

HAHA, I wanna see the look on a cop's face when he hears that when he pulls you over for your exhaust. :giggle:

3" catless here with 3 long glasspacks and a magnaflow muffler. Still stupid loud, but not raspy. I seriously will be wearing ear plugs next time I drive home 270 miles. It gives me a headache with the hardtop on. I swear if it's not a hell of a lot quieter after turbo I'm putting a different muffler on it.

I'm catless 3" on an NA.. It might be loud, but its not THAT loud at low throttle. Even 4000rpm on the highway isn't too bad with the soft top, it drones a bit but its very livable.

Haven't been pulled over yet and I attribute some of that to the lack of fart can hanging off under the rear of my bumper. We were driving in a huge group of loud cars two weeks ago and my friends bone stock looking miata with a shit can muffler (which is half the tone of every other car in the group) got a ticket for being too loud, while the rest of us never got a second look. :giggle:

I'm going on 4 months now with it installed, I just hope to god the raspy buzz under 3/4+ throttle goes away with trubo..

(M.net people are just pussies...;))

I had a thread about 3" exhaust. I'll see if I can find it.
