300hp from a 1.6, your recipe
Answer is simple: what would you get to hit that target?
(ie. wich mani, wich turbo and so on...) Any (wise)opinion is appreciated  |
Put in a built 1.8 VVT. Then a TSE setup and call it a day.
You are wasting time and money trying to make 300hp in a 1.6 reliably.,BUT shameless plug with a MKturbo setup and running ALLOFIT for boost you should get there. |
my recipe calls for .2 more motor.
|
forget to put out sponsors/vendors, 1.8 fan and all-of-it kitties... :giggle:
|
I'd do a Supertech 8.6 bottom end 99-00 motor and a TSE EFR hotside.
|
Realistically to hit 300whp reliably in a 1.6 you need a built motor, a large turbo, and a lot of boost.
The cost of building a 1.6 is the same as building a 1.8. It will take several thousand dollars, so an extra $500-1000 for a 1.8 engine is a small drop in the bucket. |

10:1 Forged VVT motor + chinaturbo + diy manifold. (or at least thats my plan)

|
to "hit" the target you don't need most of this stuff
esp on e85 to maintain that target, well that's a different story OP, be more vague please. You're just too specific. |
Actually i lied. If i personally was looking for 300whp, i'd get a Rotrex.
Cue the boos. |

Just more circle of MiataTurbo life in the quest to be like Emilio. Buy turbo car, sell turbo car. Buy turbo car, sell turbo car. Build n/a car. Install Rotrex. Sell Rotrex and BP, install K.

Little bitty ports and runners make it tough. Airflow is much more restricted than on a 1.8. It isn't just about displacement. It really isn't even mostly about displacement. It is about airflow capacity. A 1.6 with giant Honda style runners and ports could do it much more readily.
But, if I had to do it and budget was not an issue: 1. Send head to be ported by someone with Miata specific experience 2. Oversize valves 3. Custom intake manifold with skunk2 TB 4. Little bit bigger cams to open valves longer and further since ports are small 5. built bottom end with 8.4 C/R 6. MK Turbo manifold and 3in downpipe so it will spool well and because MK Turbo is the best 1.6 setup in the world right now 7. small EFR (or gtx2863R with .63 A/R if the EFR was out of stock) 8. MS3 9. E85 or water injection depending upon availability |
FE3T high comp long rod e85 dry sump. Come on. Do it.

For realsies, a $2600 TSE shortblock, $2400 TSE manifold/6258/downpipe, intercooler/pipes, MS3, injectors+fp, and a clutch, and that's a reliable 300whp on pump gas.
