99 just went turbo and having ridiculous problems

OKay so last week i put a Good used motor in my car along with a turbo kit.
Problem:
I used my friends obd II scanner and i checked my engine load which when i put the MAF on the Tb like an N/A car the engine load was within spec at 20 but then when i put the MAF on the inlet of the turbo the engine load reports itself at 50 and the car jumps idle like crazy and then dies...but the weird thing is if i turn the AC on with the MAF on the inlet of the turbo the car stays running until the fan clutch switches off and then it dies but with the a/c on the engine load reports itself at 33 which is still a little away from being within spec (16-21)....

Oh the whole intake system was pressure tested at 8 psi with the engine off and there were NO VACUUM leaks, so thats why this makes no sense so please give me some good LOGICAL help!

Redo your AIC. you need to compensate for the easier breathing with the turbo helping to push air into the motor put it in dianostic mode and adjust for desired idle once you have reached operating temperature if you dont wait until you are at operating temperature then your readings will be skewed. Or if you don't put it into diagnostic mode then it wont give you the fine tuned adjustability. :D I hope this helps.

You aren't going to get shit for help around here with that attitude.

How close to the turbo inlet do you have the MAF?

gdnimr0d 05-20-2007 02:18 AM

the maf is the same distance from the turbo inlet as shown on the new FM kits with the preformed silicone 90 degree bend.

Check the breather from the valve cover, make sure it's connected after the maf.

gdnimr0d 05-20-2007 10:43 AM

the breather is connected to the intake just after the Maf the same way FM has it...i have the same intake thing that they sell..that has the nipples for the breather and the recirculating bov.....

try to keep the thread on topic ...i just want my car running...thanks

gdnimr0d 05-20-2007 01:34 PM

okay so weird enough i started my car with no MAF and it runs and idles fine...but runs rich as all hell my wbo2 said 10:1 A/F....so when i plugged the maf back in it instantly dies but with no maf i can rev it to redline and it comes back down to idle perfectly but thats only idling....driving is still a no go because i dont want to risk blowing the motor until this thing is setup right....any ideas on this new info?

magnamx-5 05-20-2007 01:42 PM

Fuel pump relay might be toast hot wire the pump direct of a the battery or another 12v source you might have a short in the AFM circiut in regards to FP control. :D

Also that is not the best attitude to have towards philllip. We do our best to help but we happen to be a very sarcastic bunch. If we weren't then we would not get to much done humor is constructive.

BTW Psssst Philip is the owner of the site he giveth and taketh away the membership and reading abilities of the forum. And then you will be forced to find a new source for answers :p

hmm but the car runs okay when the maf is on the TB like an N/A car i mean it idles and runs okay but it has a hiccup in its idle (it misses) could that also be from the possible bad fuel pump relay?

magnamx-5 05-20-2007 02:17 PM

If the relay is bad the pump will not stay on or be getting a half ass signal so does the car run like it is out of fuel with the maf on the TB? how did you get the mafe over there wire splices? i would look there and go over your stuff. Also i recently had a way stopped up cat on our 96 that refused to let the car run we finally got it to idle but then it would not rev unbolt the cat abit and see if this helps. fully removing it is not necessart just about a 1/4-1/2 inch gap to let the motor breath then you can reconfirm with the cat of if this works GL man

Bad Maf?

morAn mechanic more likely.

i have a good spare 99 maf and i tried it and that made no difference actually thats funny that you say to seperate the cat because i currently do have a pretty decent gap between the downpipe and the cat even though they are bolted up its a decent size exhaust leak.....but anyways yeah the wiring on the factory harness has been left untouched i simply hooked up the factory intake tube and placed the maf on the end of it as it is from the factory....my wb02 reads a solid 14.6:1 - 15.3:1 a/f ratio with the maf on the TB

try some punctuation some time, you might find it helps.
