almost enough to turbo

got almost enough for my turbo setup. got the manifold, 13g turbo with wastegate, cartech FMU, and a BOV. just a few more things to go :bigtu: just wanted to share my excitment

bryantaylor 09-13-2007 02:50 AM

and i have a question to clear up about my fmu. (old cast cartech) i adjust it like this

https://www.miataturbo.net/forums/sh...6&postcount=10

then just keep turning out the small bleeder value out till i get apx 11-11.5:1 afr on my wideband, right?

Braineack 09-13-2007 08:19 AM

yep. basically. but i'd shoot for 12.5:1-12.0:1 AFR, dipping into the 11s does nothign but waste fuel.

bryantaylor 09-13-2007 01:17 PM

sounds good. just need to pick up an intercooler and a few pther little things now

IC piping, couplers, clamps, hoses, and fittings will run you another $350 or so... keep that in mind.

details? just the aluminized bends are gunna run me $90. I'd like to know how you got it that low. I'm game for ghetto as long as it's temporary.

It's an over-the-rad setup using an Audi S4 intercooler I nabbed off ebay for $15 shipped. Picked up some 2" 90° truck radiator hose bends ($20), a cheap $1 exhaust transition, another smaller radiator hose (free, had it laying around) to attach to the turbo inlet j-pipe, some worm clamps, a couple transitions and an aluminum 2.5" U-pipe for $35 shipped from cxracing, and some bar stock for mounting.

It works, and I haven't blown a hose off, torn a hole, melted anything, etc. (knock on wood). Someday I'll go back and do something better, but it got me running.

Arkmage 09-13-2007 06:01 PM

sweet. doesn't sounds very ghetto at all actually. with the exception of the worm clamps.

You own a taurus so your opinion doesn't matter.

ok guys. my DSM turbo is of course water cooled. had some DSM owners tell me i dont have to run the water lines? any ill affects from doing this?

lazzer408 09-17-2007 02:38 AM

Higher oil temps and more prone to coking. Water lines are easy on the Miata. Use the small hose off the t-stat housing. Direction doesn't matter.

I have been using a rubber coupler (designed for water plumbing) between the TB and IC pipe for months now, I have an extra in case I have any problems but it shows no signs of deterioration at all. I would expect radiator hose to work just as well if not better.

just order some 310cc and picking up a 1st gen probe intercooler. still need to do basically all of the fab work. it has been raining all week, so havent been able to get basically anything done. i have noticed the down pipe looks like its going to suck, there just really isnt much room to work with. i put a 2.5 inch 90 up to the outlet and it was hitting everything, so its going to take a decent bit of cutting and welding
