Another Injector question...which 550s?

Ok, bear with me guys, I'm new to this forum and to turbo-ing the Miata. I have a '94, all stock right now. I'm starting to gather parts for my turbo upgrade.

Here is my general plan of items to use (note, subject to change at anytime  )

Rebuild the bottom end to oem.
'99 Head (along w/ Intake & fuel rail)
GT2560R
Begi Manifold
Begi DP
EVO FMIC
Megasquirt N' Spark

My question is, since I will be switching over to a '99 fuel rail, which injectors fit these? Do the RX7 550cc still fit? I plan on running RX7 injectors, but I am not quite sure which high Imp RX7 550s fit. Will the primaries off an FD fit too? Do the plugs still fit the 550s?

Any help is greatly appreciated. I am sure you haven't heard the last of me as I build this thing.

The RX7 injectors will work with the 99 rail.

3 Attachment(s)
make sure you get the right ones. high imp 550cc rx-7 injectors look like this:

Thanks for the info guys. They don't look like that, it turns out the ones I was looking at are side feed. I'll keep searching.

360cc 195500-2130 Black
545cc 195500-2020 Red
460cc 195500-2010 Red

all PNP

small correction, they're more purple than red. i tried to get the color as close as i could in the photo correction.

What were the 360cc injectors out of?

Thanks for the help...I had a buddy place a WTB ad on the rx7club forum to try to dig some up. Whats a decent price, 100 bucks a set (4)?

kung fu jesus 09-01-2006 06:18 PM

i bought mine there for $200, but they had been to marren for balancing and blue printing and hadn't been used yet. $100 is good.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but how do you "banance" and "blueprint" an injector? Do you mean cleaned and flow calibrated? heh That's a question I never understood about engine rebuilds either was the "blueprint" part. What exactly does "blueprinting" an engine mean? Isn't a blueprint made for something before it's raw machined?

Usually blueprinting is the "going the exta mile to perfect the parts". Blueprinting an injector means that it's been flow tested before and after cleaning, and hopefully matched to the other injectors within 2% so that they are all flowing around the same cfm. Blueprinting an engine means that the builder has taken all the necessary steps to use parts that fit together perfectly, usually to the max of the manufacturers tolerances. This includes pistons, rods, and a crank that all fit together perfectly, utilizing optimum bearing clearances and bore sizing.

Finding the 550' with oval connectors is ending up being like finding a needle in a haystack. Is it hard to modify the injectors with square connectors so that the oval clips can slip on them. Id rather modify the injectors than the harness.

kung fu jesus 09-04-2006 12:19 AM

b&b injectors also means removing and replacing the screen filter in each one, the pintle covers, etc.

for non-p&p 550cc you need to buy the correct harness plugs. usually not too hard to find, easy to splice in too.

The square ones are low impedance arn't they? Or was that just the RX-7 ones?
I always wondered what people mean when there engine was blueprinted. I'd look under there hood and just see a GM engine or something and tell them they didn't design shit. GM built it. lol I guess it's another one of those "adopted word meanings". They also hate it when they tell me they "Built a '69 Chevelle" and I'd say "GM built a '69 Chevelle, you just assembeled it." :P Ah but I'm just a smartass like that.
Anyone have headrest speaker-cups they wanna sell?

There's no real correlation between impedance and connector style. Both ovals and squares are avaliable in high and low impedance versions- just gotta go by year & make.

FWIW, I'm running Bosch 42lb (440cc) injectors which are marketed as Ford Racing parts. They have the square tops, so I removed the harness and re-built it. That was actually the easy part. The hard bit was the collar of the injector where it mates with the fuel rail. The design is somewhat different from stock, such that I had to trim away a fair bit of plastic with a dremel, then hope & pray the first time I test-ran the fuel pump that gasoline wouldn't spray everywhere.

I wish I'd taken pictures, but I left my camera at work that weekend...

Dammit, why couldn't I have thought of that a month ago when I couldn't find RX7 injectors anywhere and wound up with these Bosch ones that I had to hack? :vash:

Somebody buy those quick! Send 'em to Five-0 for cleaning and you've got a helluva a deal!

Braineack 09-05-2006 06:59 PM

Still look like square injectors, but that's a steal on 460cc injectors. Even if they are different clips or ohms, wiring in clips and resistors isnt hard or expensive.
