Any good paints or coatings for exhaust manifolds ?
I have a Greddy manifold on the way and I don't want to put much money into it.
High Temp Powder Coating is rather expensive around here ( so far) Are there any paints that will last me at least for a few months . Thanks |
high temp spray paint??? ever seen a can of it???
i use it all the time.... works great :D |
Works on an Exhaust manfold ?
What brand do you use ? |
I sand blasted my manifold and compressor housing and used VHT high temp spray paint. 2 months later it’s just starting to show rust. I've yet to use a spray paint that holds up.

I'd recommend a heatshield (TDR) or thermo wrap...exposed header is not a wonderful idea, especially when summer comes back.

i had my greddy cast manifold and turbo housing ceramic coated.
while it still looks decent, it does not look like it once did. Attachment 192875 |
Begi will do it for less than 200 in ceramic good to 1800 degrees. Do it.

high temp paing will peel. the manifold heat cycles more than anything on the car and even the 2000 vht paint will not hold up
|
What about something like Jet-Hot coatings? http://www.jet-hot.com/headercoatings.html
|
I've seen Swain White Lightning hold-up on turbo racecars.

I used BBQ heat paint on the manifolds on my Dart, after 2 years they still look pretty good. Although they arent as black as the used to be, a little fadded, but no rust.

I painted mine myself with TechLine Black Satin Ceramic coating. Seems to hold up very well. I sand blasted the parts first and I baked it on in a pottery kiln at 750F but I think it would bake itself on with just exhaust heat if done right.

yeah, I had mine machined for flatness, sandblasted, then baked in an oven, then painted. Stuff like this you need to take the time and make sure it is clean and preheated to the required specs or it just wont last.

do you have an oil pressure gauge attached to your hood? |
