Any known 90-93 aftermarket TD05 downpipes?

i have a DIY TD05 16g setup along with a cheap ebay downpipe since that was all that i could find and afford at the time.

Well now i have what i think is enough for a newer "anything better then eBay" downpipe (at most $400).

i searched racing beat but they dont make anything for my set-up.

it seems like there arent any vendors out there that make a downpipe with the manifold flange that will fit a 16g TD05, thats after i searched google

But if someone here knows please help me out. this ebay downpipe looks likes it'll crack any minute and i think its hitting my tranny!:vash:

Get a shop to make you one? If its a DIY TD05 setup, likely a downpipe isnt made that will fit it.

Buy the flange and have one welded up.

What manifold do you have?

are you trying to imply that's an important factor?

^ Certainly not. Turbo placement in no way has an impact on downpipe shape/size. ;)

after looking through BEGi's site i found a downpipe that looks like it would bolt right up to my 16g ?

thank you =]

um the megan racing shit like we have is not interchangable with anything u are stuck with that or a custom job. For real though the Downpipe is a realy nice peice as they supply it. The manifold is the thing i would replace. Serius the DP is stainless 2.5 inches with beefy flanges and its mandrell bent. Where as the manifold is cheap thin metal and prone to cracking.

railz 03-03-2009 05:25 PM

alright kool then magna, i,ll take your word for it then.

the only thing that bugs me is that its stuck up against the tranny, its not rattling or anything but do you think its bad having all the head from the downpipe transfer onto the tranny housing?

yes, you don't want it hitting anything or stressing on anything. It will eventually crack if it has enough stress.

I agree with the getting a flange and getting one made. I suggest taking off your downpipe and getting something flexible like dryer duct (although maybe not that flexible) and make a template.

Dont forget to separate the wastegate from the turbine outlet! Custom like this will be tricky, but fun and less expensive. I plan on doing something like this myself.

Of course, theres always the finding something already made as well, but I havent seen as many Mitsu setups as Garrett/Turbonetics etc. in my searching.

its not hitting surely and if it is just take it to a muffler shop and get it bent alil to fit better. If you are worried about heat etc then ceramic caot or asbestos wrap it.

another option would be to add a flex pipe.

it has a flex pipe man right before the cat section there is not room enough to add another as 2.5 inch flex pipe is alot wider than the 2.5 inch pipe they run and clearance is tight to begin with. Dont newb the thread up man this guy is learning.

Orion ZyGarian 03-07-2009 01:09 AM

Can you still even get asbestos products? That's something I'd quickly pass one myself. I agree with the ceramic coating idea, or get some heat shielding.

oh sorry, I don't follow the ebay Chinese stuff very closely.

railz 03-08-2009 12:46 AM

Unfortunately zoomin, the "cheap ebay chinese" downpipe that ebay sellers sale is the only downpipe available for the turbo im running that will fit the miata.

so im stuck with whats out but yeah the whole point of this thread was to find out if there were any aftermarket over ebay thats out.

The only option now and that most have suggested is just to have it custom bent or cut and welded to where it doesnt touch the tranny housing. its alot of work but worth not having some over heated clutch plates

Thanks everyone and thanks magnamx-5 for looking out

why u arent handling it past the initial install and most of the asbestos issues out there are from the flacking and dusting asbestos getting in peoples lungs. It is very effective cheap light weight and all together a nice solution if nothing else u can get the premade sparkplug wraps for a SB domestic V8 app and unroll em then viola wire tie in place etc. I wouldnt worry bout heating ur clutch to much man serius but the overall benefits in a cooler cabin etc ie AC not working overtime cause u siting on a blow torch are nice.

Anytime Railz :D

Orion ZyGarian 03-08-2009 05:20 AM

There's always potential danger with it and there will definitely plenty of trips underneath the car for future work. There's also plenty of other choices to use for heat shielding, like the link I just posted or even grabbing something from Home Depot, like sheet metal.

I dont think the spark plug wrap will have enough size, nor tolerate the even more direct heat for too long. They arent meant for direct exhaust wrap, especially near a turbo. Not the stuff I'm thinking of anyways.
