Audi k26 KKK turbo- Good/Bad?

I sourced a KKK k26 audi turbo from a 1989 Audi 200. It has VERY to no shaft play.

its factory label says it's a k26 turbo and has the KKK logo on the cold compressor side

IFFF i do decided to pick this up. i will fab up my own custom exhaust manifold probably log style and i,ll make my own flange and make my own down pipe.

Would this be good for a 1.6? right now im using a dsm 16g and it doesnt make full boost till like 4krpm and this was dyno tuned.

let me know you turbo guru's!

i also saw a saab garrett turbo with .48 a/r and another saab with .42 a/r these any good?

:2cents:

A/R on the compressor side means nothing.

Google is your friend. Typically, all you have to do is type in the complete nomenclature of a turbocharger into a Google Image search and the compressor map will be on the first page.

It looks like it Porsche and Audi used it and has a standard T3 flange. It's a little big for a 1.6... definitely bigger than your 16g. It should be good for 300whp once you get it to spool. I wouldn't bother.

In German of something:

You'll need to convert:

Multiply every 0.10 m3/s by 211.8882 to get cfm.

your looking at a roughly 400cfm turbo. 400cfm = roughly 250BHP

Sam, it's closer in size to a 13G or 45/50 trim T3.

The compressor is roughly the size of a TD04L-13T. Boost threshold and lag will be determined by the turbine A/R. If you're willing to make your own manifold and DP, might as well go with a proven alternative.

All,

I use the smaller cousin K24 on my Volvo C70 and I'm pushing way over 300 HP at the wheels using 22 LBS of boost. The turbo peaks at 26 PSI when I run E85 without knock... anyhow, it's all bolted onto a 2.5 L 5 cylinder and is laggy as hell.

If you ask me, that turbo will be too laggy for our small motors; but once spooled is gonna be a sonofabitch!

Life of the KKK turbos has been pretty good as I had over 150k miles on my last K24 on another Volvo project. Still runs like hell after many years of abuse.

Cheers,
Prospero

judging from your tag line, our setups are quite similar., but I have the big 16 evo III (largest of the big 16s). My question is how much boost are you running? cause mine will make 10lbs by about 3800rpm and 14lbs by 4k. thing is it makes boost before the engine realy seems to respond to it. which incedentaly is about 4k. I'm not saying it doesn't make a difference below that, but that range is where it realy seems to come to life. so is it not making boost or just not making the power down that low?

I didn't dig too deep into Google hits, nor did I do the Math. There were threads from Audi/VW/Porsche/Mercedes forums and the most common number I saw was 300... but the math shouldn't lie.

I think that with my 2554 turbo on the Miata the boost is well before 3500 RPM and in the Volvo I don't see full boost till after 4k... which is outside of the tourque curve and not as good as it could be. If I did it again... I would go with the smallest turbo I can find that will breathe well and intercool the shit out of it. The larger turbo was too laggy and I did not like the lack of down-low performance. But I am not an expert... just a guy who likes to drive the car everywhere and not wait for my boost any longer than needed.

Cheers,
Prospero

i make 10lbs of boost i make it around what you said like 3.5-4k is where it comes to life

would a garrett turbo that is 42. cold side and 48. hot side any good? just a random question =P
