My IAT sensor is heat soaking pretty badly and am in need of shielding for it (because I can't really move it rite now). Has anybody done this before? If so could you post what you did and how effective it was?

I am going to try a few things but would like to see what (if anything) others have done. Thanks!

So this is how my setup was (you can see the iat on the coldside piping).



I wrapped the iat with some heat reflecting tape, made a sheet metal shield to protect it from the radiated heat from the radiator, and put a strip of turbo blanket (silver side facing the radiator) on the bottom of the coldside intercooler piping and achieved excellent results. After some long stop and go drives and some pulls on the dyno I have decided I have temporarily fixed my heat soak issue.

Over the winter I plan on installing a bung in the side of the intercooler for next years iat sensor location.

I'm N/A, so I'm not sure if this helps, but moving my sensor further back from the radiator and adding a heat shield between the header and the sensor made a dramatic difference in heat soak for me - but I still have minor issues idling after hot restart but it fixed 90% of the problem.

Why not extend the wires and drop it in the cold side end tank of your IC? That way it's in front of the radiator and effectively out of the engine bay.

EDIT: saw you're already going to do this.

Yeah, there is a **** load of work to pull the ic out seeing how I have ducting that goes around my ic piping, hence why I will do this in the winter while the car is taken apart.

And if you put the AIT in front of the radiator, right in the air stream, you will get cooling effects on your sensor. It is nearly impossible to properly thermally isolate a thermocouple in a relatively hot or cold engine bay. Just try to prevent massive heat soak and prevent large cooling and tune accordingly.
