Begi FPR for E85
 

I just recently had some stations pop up around me with E85 and I would like to take advantage of it. I have Five-O 550cc injectors, stock fuel pump and 1st gen MSPNP. I also have a begi 2035 FPR that i was going to use on another project that fell through. I'm only pushing about 190-200Whp (according to MLV).

Do you think I could get away with running the FPR+550's with E85?

Why do you want the fpr, to make better use of your 550 injectors? With only 190-200hp, I bet youre running around 8-12 psi to make that power and if so, most likely not coming very close to maxing them. You might have the headroom necessary for e85.

Yeah running about 10psi, to be perfectly honest I have not even checked how close i am to the max duty cycle. It just seems that everyone else is saying 1000cc minimum for E85 on a turbo car. That and I already have the FPR just laying around collecting dust.

Honestly, I see no advantage for you at that HP level to go to E85... just stay with 93 pump. The mileage you get out of the E85 compared to 93 pails, so it's not a huge money saver IMO. The reason some of us use the 1000+cc injectors is because we're using E85 for getting higher hp goals... 300+ while being safer in regards to fighting detonation. Only down side is filling up the fuel tank more often, and availability of it. Also, be sure you have a way to switch maps if you had to use 93 while cruising around - should you decide to go E85.

You should be able to make more power on the same boost. You will need to re-tune spark to get that power though AND properly re-tuning spark in cruise and those areas and you should be able to get about the same gas mileage possibly even better. I know that doesnt make any sense but I've seen it before with tuned cars and seen it a bunch with factory flex fuel cars/trucks.

Sure he can make more power - but just be sure your internals can handle it... sure, you won't see det, but I don't think the rod sticking out the side of the block was a gain in performance :) just sayin'

So far i've had 2 problems with E85... both very important.

After a storm our fuel tanks cannot seal all of the moisture out. Watered down E85 turns into acid that eats metals. It has a weird smell after its burnt...kinda smells sweet...also has a 2-2.5k resonance where it doesn't want to fire (yup i burned a tank of that crap). If you cannot burn ~1 tank per week or max 2 weeks and its humid in your area you might notice problems.

2nd problem is most gas stations dont measure the ethanol % carefully. It's normal to find as least as 60% ethanol and 30% gasoline. More gasoline = richer burn.
Before fillup running in 15s, after fill up, running at 16 afr change your tune to fix that... next fillup running in the 13s... sucks. It never happens after the fillup since your fuel system is still full of the old fuel... it takes about 20 minutes worth of nice driving for everything to mix up so usually the fucked up afr starts out in the middle of your trip or in the morning when you go to work and dont have a lot of time to mess around with it all.

At last on cold days E85 isnt easy to start. DD not starting when you go to work sucks bad.

Yeah we only have 91 here in Las Vegas and with the heat we have i have to run a very retarded spark map to avoid det. however with the Issues stated above i don't think E85 is for me. I may just need to find a big ass can of toluene or something.

Well since you're in vegas you shouldnt have the moisture problems. I live in chicago where its usually humid and we get a pretty good rainfall every week if not few per week.

That's the problem I'm having :( my car wont start for shit in the morning, where my water temps are 60F and outside temps are about 50 degrees. Every morning I sit on my laptop in car trying to fire her up trying to adjust cranking fuel, some days I get lucky other days I don't. I had to drive my piece of crap truck to work because my car wouldn't start, E85 is making me very upset :(((((

Post your cranking map. Preferably in jpeg format so i dont need to download whatever software you're using to read your file.
