Begi S Kit questions

i had messaged stephanie from begi supporting vendor and she had clarified a few things for me already but still a bit confused about some parts. figured id post instead so maybe id get a bit more responses/help faster so bare with me.

i currently have a 96 miata and am going into a FI project very soon and am just planning out my pieces....... very intrested in getting the begi-S kit just because its very budgeted and can obtained greater goals. now my goals are in the 220-240whp ultimately. but of course due to financial situation i would like to work it up there slowly. currently have the flying miata happy meal clutch/flywheel combo. my questions is what else is need to obtain these goals. now i will be ordering the S kit with the upgrade T2560 turbo just to get me to my goal easier. as far as step by step correct me if im wrong but this is how i imagine it would go:

1: Begi "S" kit w/T2560 garrett. 150-160whp
2: Charge cooling of some sort w/BOV. 160-180whp
3: e-manage (this is where i get confused being that my car is obdII)
4: Clutch: (decided to settle on the flying miata happy meal special. clutch is rated at 233tq (this will be done way before i even decide to order that kit along with maintenance)

now for engine management i was leaning towards megasquirt pnp but understand that since my car is a 96 and i live in the state of nevada i would have to remove the ecu in replace of the mspnp? in this car inspection becomes a problem...... now what other option do i have as far as emanage? correct me if im wrong but i believe the standard begi S kit comes with the begi fuel system? will that do for my goals of 220-240whp? what type of power would i be looking at with that fuel system max before i would have to upgrade to emanage? the emanage has just confused me more now that i find out the my 96 obdII becomes an issue and would like to plan things out before ordering the kit and realizing i would be able to make make my power goals without ripping out a hole in my pocket. just to put it out there.... i will be doing this over time so my goal right now is to get to 190-200whp without emanage if thats even possible. sorry for all the questions im a bit new to this and have been intrested in going FI for close to a year and nothing has really caught my eye except the begi - S kit because if its expandability. again sorry and thank you for any advice/input on this situation.

cheers~!

Skip the FM happy meal deal, it's way over priced. Look into an ACT clutch somewhere like prostreetonline or carolinaclutch. You can get flywheels from them as well.

The BEGI-S with GT2560 is a great choice and will get you to your power goals.
You definitely want to go with some sort of IC or WI eventually.
Skip the emanage and go with megasquirt in parallel to maintain OBD2. It is very affordable and the increased control compared to the emanage is very worth the minimal higher cost.

yes i have heard of that the megasquirt can parallel to the ecu..... how exactly does that would? whats needed in order to go this route?

teknikscian 03-07-2008 03:14 PM

in the for sale section youll see a sticky, braineack custom makes them to order.

another ECU option is the AEM F/IC which can be had for 300 nowadays. although not everyone here has used it as extensively as megaquirt there are several people that have and love it. i actually just ordered one, its also OBD2 compliant and runs in parallel like the megasquirt (Aem or MS will control fuel and spark while the stock ECU handles everything else...)

as for inspection, dont you have to remove everything anyways? i dont know how NV works, but once im finished with my kit come smog time the car goes back to stock...

blkdiamondmiata 03-07-2008 03:41 PM

what exactly do you mean when u take everything off? well when i went to get my smog done all they really did was plug and play.... nothing else. to my understanding thats why i would want the parallel ms so they can just plug it into the ecu and call it a day without know whats really under there =D hehehe

^ If you talk to braineack about building you one then you wont have to take anything off the car come emmission time. Just maintain all the emissions equipment and you will be fine.

Ah no visual inspection. thats nice. they check under the hood here, and under the car, and inside.. and then you have to spread your cheeks and lift your sac...

damn thats terrible news..... but no they dont do any type of visual exam here... just plug and go. definately will talk to brain about making me one once the time has come

now if i do indeed get this parallel setup ..... say during smog tests..... ive heard that they usually rev the motor during smog.... would that be a problem, does the mspnp take over once revving starts going? although they did not rev my car last week when i got my smog done i have heard from 1 person in my local club that they rev the motor. thanks!

cjernigan 03-09-2008 01:00 PM

The MSPNP is full standalone, it has full control, as in NO stock ecu is left in the car.
In a parallel install the MS has full control of fuel and spark, the rest is left to the stock ecu. So no matter when or how you rev it MS has full control. It doesn't just take over at any particular time.
