Begi-s ordered. Add on questions!

Hey guys after a few months of research, etc. a week ago, I finally ordered the BEGi-S kit with the BEGI fuel system for my 99. I am going this route basically because I can start slow, work my way up in the future and it comes with the CARB sticker. Now, I am hoping to get the kit within 3 weeks and I know I need to get some other goodies. Hopefully I can get started on some of these things before I start putting the kit on since this car is my daily driver. I am going to try to do this as cheaply as possible since I am on a limited budget.
Here is what I am thinking I am going to order hopefully by tomorrow night.
Wideband o2, boost gauge, bov and maybe a fmic.
Basically I just want to make sure, that this is the route I should be going in terms of particular parts, and sites I am using. Also, for these parts, (particularly the wideband and boost gauge) they don’t necessarily have to be for the miata specifically right? Another question pertaining to the bov, what is the diameter of the intake tubing? 2.5?
1. Wideband o2. AEM UEGO- price with shipping-235.00

2. Boost Gauge-Equus 2” -35.00

3. BOV-RS style
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RS-TY...QQcmdZViewItem
This is somewhat expensive… also doesn’t come with the clamps… really not sure about which one to get…
Also maybe considering the T coupler with the t mount bov but don’t really know which bov to get for it. I saw the thread on this forum about this method, but not sure which bov to use.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Diver...QQcmdZViewItem
4. Intercooler 74.00
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CXRac...ayphotohosting
Piping – 115ish.

As well as some loose pipes and clamps etc that I might need.
I am trying to be really careful ordering stuff, don’t want to waste money, time etc. Anything else I might need for the kit? Again thanks a lot guys for all the help, I appreciate it a lot!

I would forego the intercooler and focus on engine management to start out. If you are serious about saving money, look into a homebuilt Megasquirt to run parallel with your OEM ECU; if you're afraid of building an MS yourself, look into having one built for you.

ok so megasquirt if i build it myself would be 300ish for everything? is that about right? plus ofcoarse the cas which i would have to source somwhere.. 80-120ish?

How does the other stuff look as far as sources particular stuff?

if i do go megasquirt.. provided i have all the other things in my post minus the intercooler, i will at most be running 6 pounds at the most if i am not mistaken?
are their some known places where they sell the cas? wondering if i can pick one up at a pick and pull around here...

Serper3 04-21-2008 05:17 AM

another thought... if i where to go megasquirt.. which i was planning on going with later down the road anyway, would their be any reason to go with the lc1 more so than the uego?

Savington 04-21-2008 05:32 AM

With an MS and a wideband you should be able to run 6psi with no intercooler safely. Add an intercooler to that, and you're limited by fuel injector size; add injectors, and the sky is the limit. I know DIYAutotune prefers the LC-1, and it is a little more versatile than the AEM.

Remember to budget for stuff like an aftermarket radiator/oil cooler if you track the car, a clutch over 180-200whp, a 2.5 or 3" exhaust if you want to get the most out of your setup, gauges, etc. I'd say $2k out of the $4500 I have into my car is stuff like that. $600 exhaust, $200 gauges, $400 clutch, $300 radiator, $250 oil cooler. The support mods add up. Add the MS+LC1 combo at $1k and you can see how small a part the actual manifold-turbo-downpipe combo plays in the price.

well so far, i have been thinking the wideband and the boost gauges.. maybe oil, and egt later... speaking of gauges, is the boost gauge i linked to a decent gauge?
clutch... thats partly why i want to keep it on the lower end. i am not in a hurry to raise the boost high. i am willing to do clutch in a few months when it has to be replaced or in a few months when i am ready to increase the boost.
radiator and oil cooler will also probably be coming in sometime in the summer. for now, i just want to make sure the most necessary stuff is ok.
btw savington, we have to hang out sometime when your back from school ... johani told me about u and that i should be pming you with questions... my name is Henry btw and thanks for the help!

Serper, If you do go MS which will be less than $500 even if you get somebody else to solder it together, you can recoup some of that money by not ordering the BEGi fuel system which should save you something like $200-$300. It's a few hundred more in startup cost, but it will save you money in the long haul.

Well I know Braineack is not building MS at the time. Personally i wouldn't go with that intercooler dimension. I learned from my own mistakes, if i were to go back in time and do my car again i would of bought an exhaust first, then MS, and then my turbo kit. Now im so broke that i cant get an exhaust or MS. While your searching you should look into a good clutch. Even if your only planning on 6psi. There is alot of ups and downs with the ebay knock off BOV, some work (like the one i have) and some dont (like the one i used to have).

+1 I agree completely. Go with the MS. I have the begi-s and that is what I did. Chad aka cjernigan also builds them.

I am running 7 psi on 93 oct pump gas with no IC. See my sig for my BEGi-s BOV mod.

EDIT: The stock clutch is also working fine so far though it will slip if I shift really hard between gears. Otherwise it is OK.

honostly, the reason i am going with the begi fuel system.. is so i can get the carb sticker.. i am planning on going ms down the road when i am ready to increase boost.

i am not horribly concerned about going broke... i will have enough if i need to get a clutch... i just always want to have money in the bank in case somethng happens.. are their any particular bov's you would avoid?

is that the bosch valve that everyone refers to? do you have any sound clips? my friend might be able to give me one for free. i was planning on building my own ms when i am ready in the future though.

so i guess new plans... no intercooler for now. as far as the uego and the boost gauge i linked to.. are those ok for me to buy?

i am hoping to run the begi fuel system for a few months at like 5 psi while i build my megasquirt. this way i will have the carb sticker... once i get the ms i can sell the begi fpr. at this point i will also probably do intercooler and clutch, and up the psi a few, on the stock injectors maybe 8? hopefully shortly after i can get some rx7 injectors or something similar and run 10-11ish psi and for now that will have to be ok. i cant wait to start doing suspension stuff :)
but as far as the parts i am looking to buy.. are those safe bets? decent enough to work ok? i am looking to order them today so i can have em wired in the car before the kit comes so i am not so busy doing this when i have to put the kit in..
thanks alot guys again for your quick responses!

I am new to miatas and turbos and i was wondering a few things if you guys would be so kind to help me out. First off ill tell you about my car. i have a 91 mariner blue, all stock, except i just ordered kyb agx shocks, FM springs, and all around fcm shock mounts.
I am looking into my next step in modding my car. I wanted to work from the wheels to the motor. i didn't want to slap a turbo onto a stock car and have to replace stuff down the road. i was going to do wheels and tires but thats another story.
my question was can i buy a full exhaust that will work for me when i get my turbo kit. i was looking into the begi kits. would i need an axle back or what is the most i can remove from the car as far as exhaust? my other question is about megasquirt. can i benefit from this without a turbo? i know it does about everything but can i benefit from it on a pretty much stock n/a car? i tried to search for information on the subject but didn't know what to look for exactly.
again i am a newbie to turbos and fuel injected cars in general, my old car was a 73 maverick. thank you for all of your help and i apologize if im OT.
