BOV Adjustment
Ever since riding in Mac929's car with his new VTA FM BOV, I've been wondering if mine is working correctly. He has a nice psssst when his BOV is working and mine doesn't sound anything like that. I have the 1st generation FM BOV and I plan on lubing it up and adjusting it tomorrow afternoon. Can anyone give me an idea where the BOV piston should be while the car is idling or how I should go about adjusting it?
Also, what shoud I use for lubrication?:riaa: Keith from FM said to use Dry Lube?? I've been to two auto part stores and notbody has heard of this. thanks -stripes |
Isn't dry lube just graphite?
Does yours flutter? |
I'm not sure. I did see some kind of graphite lubrication. Maybe that's what he's talking about.
I don't think so, but I definitely don't have a pssssst sound. |

If I squeeze the vacuum line, the piston travels further in. Best to have a pretty large, dedicated vacuum line coming off your intake manifold. |
Yes, graphite is dry lube... I've used it on mine and my gf's VW's. The door locks would get a little stuck sometimes so you just put some graphite on the key and insert it into the lock a couple times which helps it turn more freely. Just make sure you don't squeeze the tube too hard, as it will spray everywhere, lol, since it's a very fine powder.
