Which budget turbo?
I had a search but couldn't find a suitable thread.
Got a T03T04E or some such cheapy turbo on my NA Miata, it only cost £130 posted and I bought it as I was after a T3 flanged turbo to match my cast manifold. It really is quite large! Makes boost around 5000rpm which isn't too bad really. It does however smoke a fair bit and if I'm going to replace it I may aswell get a decent sized turbo. Stock healthy 1600 motor, MSPNP, stage 3 clutch, yet to buy injectors but the aim is to get as much power as safe to do so. What do people recommend? I'm not after a £1000 Garrett, another ebay cheapy will do be it T3 or T25 flange, I have an adaptor here already... Ta |
Look up Braineack's thread about the ebay turbo. And, holy shit! spool up by 5k rpm??? Damn!
|
get a t25 off a stock nissan sr20, it will hold up better then an ebay turbo and make more then enough power for your stock injectors.
|
5k rpm spool and stock injectors.. That doesn't sound like a fun build whatsoever.

use the proper sized T3 trim turbo to match your motor, no T4 bullshit.
See my thread about it. Use that one. The key is sticking with a 60mm compressor wheel. Not 71mm, not 76mm, not 81mm. 60mm. This is the best turbo you can go with considering your budget and your T3 footprint. Also it's smart to use a .060" oil restrictor..I'm sure your current turbo is fine. |
Ok my fault, I'll give you some more information, car is currently on 1.8 injectors and a FPR. But I have just bought a MSPNP, I've yet to choose what injectors to go with when I go ahead with the fitment.
I guess I'd need a whole new cold side of the turbo to take a 60mm Compressor? |
T3 60
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GARRE...item587fae12e6 like this, you can find the china clones for cheaper though if you look more |
May I also add that the T3's were also on the Volvo's back in the day, (Would know, came from turbobricks, and built a rather nice Volvo a few years back.) You can find those anywhere for cheap, and they are iirc near the size you are talking about, and on Turbobricks.com or at Pull a part, you can get one for lunch money..... Also i would recommend the T3 over the mitsu turbo's as they do not flow as well high up, and the headroom is higher on the T3's......
^ That is if you are looking for a rather cheap fix that could last a good time, as the T3's can go up to 200K easy. I would know i had a 88 Volvo with 220K on it, and the turbo still was strong, little play, but still....... Please forgive me if i misunderstood what your question was, just giving you option B or C...... |
If you have the adaptor for a T25 and all fits properly, I'd grab a lightly used SR20 turbo and a .035" restrictor and call it a day. That turbo is good for ~250rwhp and plenty of spool by 3k rpms. I have no exp. with T3 sized turbos.
