Can I make myself a frankenstein TD04H?

I'm not having much luck finding a TD04-H 15g turbo on the cheap.
What I was thinking however is as plenty of cars use the TD04 in 3 bolt exh inlet spec, could I get one of them on the cheap, strip it and refresh the seals etc and rebuild it around this exh housing*, therefore converting it from a 3 bolt td04 to a t25 flange 4 bolt?

Reason being I already have a 4bolt greddy manifold and a greddy downpipe, just missing the bit in the middle now!

Why do you want a TD04?

oli_the_thread 04-15-2012 04:25 PM

I already have all the hardware to support the TD04 fitted to my car, just not the turbo unit itself

You can use any T25 on that manifold IIRC. You might need to do some modifying on the downpipe but that's your best bet.

T25 will fit fine, but would need to get a custom downpipe made up, and by the time I've bought a T25 and had someone to make a suitable DP I'd be out of pocket, and dont really have any way of getting my car to an exhaust maker and dont fancy driving with an open turbo

I havent ruled it out totallly, but my ideal situation is to get hold of a TD04

I did something similar for a t25/t28 Churbo to Subaru td04. Not the prettiest but functional. In my case I had the right turbo but wanted the instant spool of the TD04-13t. I will end up changing it to v-bands most likely.

Thanks for your help dude, but thats the same as a T25, using a garrett spec downpipe fitting.

This is actually the exact turbo I need, but what I'm really asking is, is it possible, using the parts in OP to make one, which would end up costing me less?

I think the exhaust wheels are different diameters on the Greddy TD04 15G and the Subaru TD04 13T so it wouldn't work.
(Presuming you are talking about the Subaru 3 bolt flange.)

Putting a TD04 13t between the Greddy flanges is possible but not elegant.

That said, a used ebay TD04 13t plus flange work would cost a lot less than the 469 gbp for the TD04 15G link you posted.

cheers guys!
All well worth noting

I'll keep looking for now as I have a snapped wrist so any spanner work is on hold anyway, but if needs be then I'll have to look at alternatives
