which chinacharger, of these two?
my power goal is ~250whp, but i'd obviously like a little bit of head room. maybe 275 eventually
1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/t3-in...Q5fAccessories 2.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T3-T4...Q5fAccessories looking at these things is giving me a headache. if neither of these is a good choice, link me to one that is? |
they are more or less the same same. think GT3071 size.
Thats overkill for my goal isn't it?
a bit.
I want something between that, and what you have brain. What Garret turbo would that compare to?
If the specs for #1 are correct, it looks like it has a stg 3 sized t3 exhaust wheel, and a 57 trim compressor wheel. I don't think that it will perform the same as a 3071, but I'm pretty sure you'll hit your goals with either one.
The second one looks to be a bit smaller on the cold side, but without the exducer measurement one can't do the math. Exhaust wheel appears to be the same as the first one. I used one similar to the second one on my FE3 and got 265hp/290ft,tq @ 15psi. That was on a stock engine with larger injectors and a TEC2. |
well unless someone else has some input, i'm going to go with #1
the 3071 has a 53mm/71mm compressor. #1 turbo above has very similar size.
the 3017 has a 60mm turbine inducer. #1 turbo has a 63mm. how is that not sized like a 3017? no doubt you'll hit your goal with either one, but you'll be leaving tons of powerband on the table. For a 250-275rwhp goal I'd be looking for something in the 2560/2860/2871 range. or a straight 60 trim t3. a real 60 trim with a 60mm exducer, not 71mm. |

Not to derail, but is it bad that these are not water cooled? For a track car I'm guessing probably.

The compressor wheels are acutally identical in size but the T3 has a slightly larger turbine. This is a 300-350rwhp turbo. A 57 trim t3/t4 is a 430-450rwhp turbo. if you could find a 40 or 46 trim t3/t4 with a stage I turbine, that could work. What size motor you running? |

that's the turbo im running. It's a 250rwhp turbo at best.
I'll have to check out your spool data/dyno run. Does it begin to run out of steam pretty badly up top? I'm shooting for 250whp at max anyways (for now).
should dyno again with it next weekend. It starts to die off a little after 5.7K in comparison to the super 60 wheel I was running, but I have a solution for that.
I'm in to hear the solution and see how that dyno run goes. I wonder if water/meth and more boost would take care of that issue.
more boost was the answer. ill add a lb or two after 5.5K :)
