Clocking turbo=fail...

Just got a hold of my Garrett today. Trying to clock the CHRA and Turbine housing, with no luck at all. I have the bolts backed out finger loose on the turbine housing, and I've set the turbo in a vise a prybar in the turbine inlet with no luck at all.....If im correct, the 4 CHRA bolts under the drain and feed (the non-painted bolts) dont have to be loosened to clock correct?

Those bolts don't have to be loosened???^^^

Both turbine and compressor clip bolts dont have to be loose to just 1 side correct? :vash::vash:

Any tips, shortcuts?

Take photos of everything you're talking about.

Do those bolts above have to be loosened to rotate the CHRA?

Hot_Wheels 06-10-2010 11:50 PM

on my garret 60 t3 i pollised the cold side, theres a paper gasket that is glue i believe, try seperating then rotate. if its anything like mine was desighned. i would then maybe use some silicone to reseal it

I'm not having any trouble at all getting the compressor housing to rotate. Its just everything else. Here is an actual pic of what I'm working with, do the bolts circled in red need to be loosened to rotate the CHRA and Turbine? The compressor comes free no problems.

Need this car done by daylight, anybody have any suggestions/answers?

Damn I had the same fucking problem. I gave up on that shit. I dont think removing those bolts has anything to do with the turbine side of the chra.

Well when I try to pry at the turbine inlet, even though I've tightened down the compressor housing clips the compressor still rotates and not the CHRA or Turbine. I figured that since they were facing the direction of the compressor that maybe it held it in place and thats why the rest wouldnt turn seperate of the compressor.

I tried the same, and failed too. I also hit it a mallet and nada. I now have a gt2560 that is completely useless -__- . Where's the "burning cash" smiley

Theres a will theres a way smiley?

Ah ha!! Do you have a blow torch, looks like thats the only way that bitch will come apart

WonTon 06-11-2010 12:42 AM

you shouldnt have to take those bolts out! just the bolts on the compressor that hold the holding straps on take those bolts out, the straps will come off. then take a rubber mallet and start tapping the compressor housing in the direction you want it to come off. start working your way around the housing....

na8psi 06-11-2010 12:44 AM

the compressor housing is turning no problem its the CHRA and turbine that wont budge.

Did you look at the link I posted? Seriously a blow torch seems like the way to go.

18psi 06-11-2010 12:50 AM

Didn't we JUST have a thread EXACTLY like this yesterday?

do the same thing for the CHRA and turbine housing......and a blow torch will help along with PB blaster! but not at the same time...

dgmorr 06-11-2010 12:57 AM

Yes we did, lol!

na8psi 06-11-2010 12:58 AM

Tried a blow torch already....

magnamx-5 06-11-2010 01:03 AM

um if your shit attaches like the pictures there it is non clockable u can take all the bolts out and turn it but then how is the mofo gonna be held on. My mitsu uses a vband style flange on the hotside and a snap ring with oring on the compressor side to hold shit to the chra your garret it would apear is just straight bolt on not tweakability accept for at 90 and 180 degrees if the bolts are symetrical.

tasty danish 06-11-2010 01:05 AM

nvm

cardriverx 06-11-2010 01:19 AM

GAHHHHH

Ok, no you do not have to loosen the bolts you circled. They are for taking the turbine wheel backing off. You already have the bolts loose that need to be, at least it looks like you do.

Now, what you need is some heat with a torch and a dead blow hammer. Put the center section in a vice so it will not rotate, heat up the turbine housing, and wack the flange a few times. That should get it free.

The problem is the center section and the turbine are cast iron, allowing for rust if let to sit. That and all the carbon deposits from the exhaust help to fuse the two together.

na8psi 06-11-2010 05:27 AM

After much swearing and throwing the deadblow around the shop. It came loose, I literally had to walk around the center section with the torch for about 12min constant.

thanks for the info guys, sorry to bother you all. Car is done and ready for the dyno, ready to sleep now and dream about mt.net saving me from the anti-clocking dragons.

Drank too much.....

buffon01 06-11-2010 01:21 PM

Fuckin-a Im heading to home depot tonight and see if I can get mine lose. If it does, I think the crack it has could be repaired.

Post dyno results or it didn't happen!
