Who has boosted without timing control?
Im wondering if it is safe or possible for a 1.6 to run on 6-8psi intercooled boost getting plenty of fuel, without any kind of boost activated timing control? I know the base timing would have to be set pretty low, but it still be drive able? Has anyone done this? please let me know.

That's what I thought you meant. MSDs come along every now and then on the cheap as people get bipes, but not so much any more. Bipes tend to hold most of their value too.

I was running 6° first time I went on a dyno. Picked up like 20-30hp increasing it to 16° and pulling with the Bipes. Night and Day difference in low-end power delivery.
Just tune to whatever doesn't knock, you can always richen up the mixture a tiny bit and run colder injectors to help battle it.

yea, ive experianced knock before, i know what to listen for, i wasnt sure if it would even run with the timing that low though. i think i will try to run it at about 8 deg..
This is my plan,
The car is my daily driver.. so i want to be able to drive it, and i dont want to spend the money on a bipes just yet, but i will get some some time. But i have almost everything else to install the turbo, intercooler, and FMU, so i wanted to get everything hooked up, and start adjusting things to get it running good enuff to drive.

i found out how the cas signal is generated and figured out that it just needs to be delayed by an unknown amount, so i thought maybe you could just insert a very short digital delay that would switch in at a given rpm or something. i kinda had a theoretical setup worked out in my head but never got around to building it as i decided to go the megasquirt route.
if my idea proved to be workable, you could probably do it for less than $50.
but for the sort of time and effort it would take to get this to work properly, you're probably bettter off just getting a bipes.

this is very true, i just hate letting go of 200 bucks.. i know its worth it, but im just cheep, and if there is .001% of a chance i can build something that will do part of the job, im always willing to try, guess im crazy like that.
the signal from the cas is not much more than a analog sine wave type signal isnt it?
