Complete MSM Turbo setup on a '99
Got a good buddy of mine selling me an almost complete kit from a MSM. He had purchased it to install on his '99, but a tree kinda nixed that idea.
Anywho, my goal for the car right now is about 200whp. The only things I'm missing so far and will need are... 1. Intercooler for a '99 with PS and AC 2. Some form of engine management (FM Voodoo box?) 3. Oil feed/return lines 4. Coolant feed/return lines I know that some of ya'll don't particularly like this as an upgrade, but My ultimate goal for the car is only 250whp. I'm going to upgrade to a standalone/injectors in a few years once I get the car all sorted, so this is fine for now. What I'm asking for from ya'll are suggestion as to what size core I would need and suggestions for a type of basic engine management. (Hence the reason I referenced the Voodoo box) Not a standalone. |
if you can get the MSN I/C piping you can do this
http://mazda-speed.com/forum2/index....e&topic=3252.0 the Voodoo is not bad I guess but look into the new AEM FIC |
Why would you spend money on a voodoo card or pc pro when you can spend the same amount on megasquirt and have the standalone from the get go?
18x8x3 might be a good core. Whatever guys have been getting from CRX racing lately. |
Is the MS hard to set up and tune? That could sound like a good option cause I'm also getting the MSM injectors and fuel rail too.

Parallel is a breeze on the '99 man. The only hard part is laying on your back to access the ECU wiring harness.

The harness is easy to get to man. Have you been under there to check it out? You can pull the harness up over the steering column and it will pull down farther so you can get it in the footwell without laying on your back.

I've been under the dash one or two times already cleaning up wiring from the previous owner. Doesn't seem to hard to get to. Not sure if the car is OBDI or II. Never really looked into it.
|
99 should be OBDII unless someone hacked it up.
|
^yep OBDII
|
Unhacked....Cool! I was thinking about picking up an eBay IC, what would be the easiest to utilize? End tanks with outlets on the back or the sides? Top or Bottom?
|
Look in the FAQ, it goes on and on about intercoolers but to answer your question. Sides on the bottom for an around the radiator setup.

It's pretty ludacris cheap....Actually REALLY ludacris cheap. I'm pretty confident that I can hit my 200whp goal with this kit. Yes it's a small turbo, but it will spool quick and work great for AutoX. The turbo has also had some work done to it and I'm pretty confident that I'll be happy with it for now. I appreciate the concern though! :D

With considerable effort, I'm sure 200 is possible. It's the 250 figure you were throwing around that I don't see happening.
|
That's fine. Down the line I'll pick up a new Mani and Turbo if I get unhappy with the MSM "kit". Don't have the time to tune and learn a standalone system right now, two kids kinda keep me really busy! So the more set it and forget it/stupid easy to maintain I can make it right now, the happier I'll be!

Here's another Q? for ya'll. What's the biggest IC I can run in my car with PS and AC?
