coolant re-route radiator hose touching pipe
doing my own home-made coolant re-route and i'm wondering if I need to get a different radiator. the outlet is really close to the intake/charge pipe and well, is this bad? or can i live with it?

Most of us have that same problem. You could trim a bit off the hose end that goes to the upper radiator inlet, to get the hose moved away from the throttle body pipe just a tad.
Rotating the assembly of the radiator hose and cross-pipe around the point of the radiator inlet will also buy you a tiny bit of extra clearance. Also, is that up-pipe fully inserted against the throttle body as far as it will go? |
Yep, had the same problem. You gotta get creative. It's not really that big of a deal unless you can see the hose is...unhappy about bending in a certain way.

yeah, the pipe is pretty much touching the throttle body.
I've already cut part of the radiator inlet as it was out even further, and i've cut about 3 inches off the radiator hose. Not sure how much more I can go and feel safe. as of now, there isn't a lip on the radiator inlet :( oh yeah, I forgot to add the pipe is sort of a one off begi, but it's because they messed up on the sensor tap (welded it too high), but it still works and I got it at a discount. length wise, I'm guessing it's the same as the "normal" one they sell |

I had that problem, so I re-did my coldside piping to tilt towards the middle a bit.

Wait until you get a thicker aluminum radiator, then you'll really have a problem.
I forget, is it any better if you route the hose to the right of the pipe and then behind it? Hope not, seeing as though you've already cut the radiator. |
you 1.6L's have it easy. 1.8's have less room. I am not sure what I am going to do yet, but I think I have to re-do my IC piping
|
I have a '95 with an FMII kit and a 55mm Koyo. Looks like I'm going to be hating life when I go to install the M-Tuned reroute.

I had the same isssue - I cut another 4" piece of hose and overlapped and zip-tied it on at the contact point - that way I wasn't chaffing the actual coolant line itself. Same with my oil lines from the sandwich plate to cooler...

Check this thread for a ton of pics of that said pipe for ideas.
https://www.miataturbo.net/showthrea...olant+re-route I ended up having outlet re-welded at an angle, but there are a lot of better options |
Thanks Preluding. I guess I had a search button fail. Very useful
I think I'm gonna bring the egr tube to a shop down the road and just have them weld the two pieces together. my little torch just aint gonna cut |
