CX7 Turbo on NB

4 Attachment(s)
I have a warner/hitachi k0422-582 turbo from a CX7 with about 500 miles on it and i want to use it for a basic setup. For the time being im thinking somewhere around 4 to 6 lbs of boost, no intercooler injectors or tuning. I just want to put it in with a turbo manifold and a down pipe. I have had no success in finding any information on manifold or downpipe options. I have a good feeling that there are none available and I will have to have them custom made. If anyone has any ideas, or recomendations please let me know. I want to get my car boosted, and afterwards get it setup the right way.

good luck finding an adapter for this turbo! also... you DO need some extra fueling. o2 clamp AT LEAST!

ryanensminger 08-06-2009 02:46 AM

so do you think stock pulse width with BIG

ryanensminger 08-06-2009 02:47 AM

damn laptop... BIG injectors would do the trick? I want more power and i know the most bang for the buck is turbo. I guess im going down the custom road...

UrbanSoot 08-06-2009 04:27 AM

i wouldnt bother with this turbo. just get begi shanghai kit - BEGI Shanghai Turbo Systems - BEGi

slideways 08-06-2009 04:52 AM

Do it right the first time or not at all

Ok the ko4 turbo you have has a wastgate that is set a 15.5 psi which is way to high for what your looking for. so you would need to get a new wastegate for it to open ot 5-6psi

I plan to spend my money on the MegaSquirt PNP it will allow me the most out of my system.

heres how i would do it MSPNP + Begi Shanghai turbo kit
You can add the megasquirtpnp to the shanghai kit for 500 or so 200 less than you can get anywhere else and bigger injectors like 450cc 0r 550cc. then get the wideband O2 sensor its is a must cant stress that enough. And get it tuned properly. you gotta pay to play and sometimes its hard.

if you are trying to keep this turbo it will be hard but its doable custom manifold custom downpipe somehow get a the wastegate to open at 5-6psi then either the MSPNP or the bandaids ie(fmu, bipes, msd, vodoo) and the most important a Wideand O2 sensor and guage

DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME OR NOT AT ALL dont blow up your motor because your in a hurry its not worth it. I know you want to be boosted and the bandaids look like a sweet and simple way to get what you want but later on if you want more power you will need a standalone ems. If you are fine with 6 psi or 8psi and less mpg then go with the bandaids. Otherwise just go standalone

holy shit! noob is helping a noob!!! where is this forum going?!

slideways is right on the point... the only problem is, you can expect getting banned when you wake up tomorrow morning because all this info is in FAQ and you didnt read rules before posting ;)

slideways 08-06-2009 05:44 AM

Just because im a noob on the forum doesnt mean im a noob to building cars. But always telling everyone to search on a growing forum would take eternity for them to learn what is needed.

Do us all a favor, go buy one of those plastic "turbonator" fans from ebay and throw that on your car. No injectors, intercooler, or anything needed. Its the perfect solution for your plans, and only about 100 bux

OR

If you want to not be a complete dumbass retard, I suggest you go to the "useful threads" section and read the "diy faq". Right now I think my dog knows more about turbo's and cars than you.

Read what you wrote ^ and tell me that it's not a dumb idea. Since you are going to screw up your engine if you do it that way, let me help you all that I can.

With a little reorganizing of your priorities, you can see your fixed quote below. It will lead to a much happier Ryan, whether you want to hear it or not.

It is not always best to find a turbo and then make it fit a particular car's available manifolds. Sometimes it makes much more sense to find out what manifolds are out there, and then find the right turbo to fit one of them that is tailored to your hp/rpm goals. Braineak just bought a new turbo for $175 that fits his manifold.

Turbos, especially OEM turbos, are a dime a dozen so don't pick one to go on your car by choosing the first one you stumbled over for cheap. Find the right size and configuration and do it only once.

Hang out and study awhile and you will make fewer bad decisions that you will have to undo later with lots more money and hassle.

ryanensminger 08-06-2009 11:30 PM

Yeah, you ALL are right. I was thinking that since i had the turbo i might as well make shit happen, but it is just a big pain. I have looked at the Shanghai kit, and it seems like a pretty good idea. As for my previous statement about boosting then setting up, i worded that poorly. As far as I understand from this verbal bash, the CX7 turbo that i have is nothing more than a paperweight. SLIDEWAYS, when you refer to bandaids, were talking piggy backs, right. And with the MegaSquirt youre running full standalone which enables complete remapping of the fuel, and ignition timing, correct? I have a good knowledge of cars, i really do, but i have never really gotten into the turbo scene. But I figure it is time, and I am just begging for more go. I appreciate all of the input, wether or not its as harsh as sandpaper, and hopefully before too long ill be buying a proper kit and making shit happen.

Megasquirt isn't a "full standalone" but that's ok, because its still great. Bandaid's are things that keep the original ecu and change things. O2 sensor clamp, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, etc, etc... Again, all covered in a couple pages in the Usefull threads section.....

If I were you, I'd just say, go cheap(er) since its your first time, and worry more about building a low boost, safe system, rather than going into the 10's on your first turbo miata....

By cheap(er) I mean check out the classifieds. It doesn't sound like you need this RIGHT MEOW! and there is a turbo project of one form or the other scrapped almost weekly on this forum, and there are always smoking deals on here, and yes, ebay, but buyer beware on ebay.

I would really really recommend, as everyone else has, to read through the "required reading" section here, then lurk, then think about it, and lurk some more, for the next week, instead of continuing posting rather pointless, and annoying questions Also, this is not Need for Speed, or GranTurismo, so please remember that... Not accusing... just sayin.

UrbanSoot 08-07-2009 01:27 AM

megasquirt IS a full standalone.

What do you consider a "full standalone"? I guess the fact that my stock ECU is sitting on a shelf in my garage gave me the impression that my megasquirt is a standalone.

*urban beat me*

Yea, I'm dumb. Consider I'm taking this from an MSM standpoint? Can't yank it on our cars.

***Maybe I should make a sig, and people would just say, "oh, we understand...*pats head*"

slideways 08-07-2009 03:00 AM

Bandaids are the cheap easy way to get your car turbo but in the long run its better to go stand alone. If you must go turbo right this second you will need to read the FAQ take a long hard look and read everything 10 times to get a really good understanding of what you need
