Default Just orderd my EBC from DIY.-Now tuning-needs help

I am aiming for faster spool.

Next weekend I will be getting a new 3" exhaust installed on the car. The cool thing is the shop has a dyno, so we will dyno with the existing set up, and then we will do it again with the 3" set up.

So hopefully with those two things I can bring spool up quicker. Here is where I am now with a manual boost controller.

4th Gear starting from 2900rpms

.28-2918
2.8-3096
5.14-3290
8.14-3663
10.4-3853
12.5-4253

Oh, you're going to see an improvement on your spool for sure!

Which turbo are you running: a T2560?

Let me know about the new DIY EBC. I may end up changing my GM solenoid even though I haven't faced any issues with it.

Edit; shows you how much I know and how well I read. I just saw you're running a T3/T4

sweet!

I have been reading up on here as how to set the EBC in MS. I am looking forward to some early boost.

What size exhaust are you running now?

Also, whats the specs on the t3/t4?

Yeah just follow the normal EBC tuning procedure and you will get it dang close in a half dozen pulls or so. It will definitely spool sooner, even according to the butt dyno.

Pulling from 2900rpm for spool is sort of useless. Try again from 2k and see if it's any better.

No, I know. I was in cruising in 4th and had an opening, so I floored it. There aren't too many places within the city where I can let the car slow to 1500rpms in 4th and then gooooooooooooooo. However, I do intend of finding a good spot to make those runs so I can tune the EBC. I may wait and do it on the dyno. That way I can get numbers with the old exhaust, new exhaust, and new exhaust with the EBC.

Greenday,

I am currently running the Racing Beat power pulse cat back, and I think it is about 2.3 inches in diameter. I don't have the pre-silencer, and I am running with a test pipe, no cat. I have had that exhaust for almost 4 years now. I actually like the sound of the set up, but it is too restrictive I think.

The T3/4 is a 60/.48, Garrett

It's a "mod" for the megasquirt ECU, so if you don't have the ECU the EBC will be nothing but two resistors, a transistor and a boost solenoid :P

Scott,

Is this still "the way" to tune the EBC? I found this thread while searching around. The EBC should be in my hands either today or tomorrow.

pretty much. basically find out the rpm you make your target. open the valve a few hundred rpm before that target in 4th gear. then just figure out the DC% you need to maintain it to redline.

That is what I did, worked just fine. I had to reduce the DC% values a bit as it approached redline to flatten the curve.
You might also want to try reducing the DC% in the part throttle areas to help with 'feel' during throttle roll-on.

Ok. So I got the EBC hooked up, but....the spool is slower? LOL...

I put the EBC right in place of the MBC that was there. The set up for the EBC shouldn't differ from the MBC should it?

I set the 1st column at 500rpms-100% DC
set the second column at 2000rpms- 100% DC

Did my 4th gear pull from 1815 rpms-
Reached my target of 186 kpa at 4448- which is almost 150 rpms LATER than with the MBC.
The map and the rpms have a linear progression to them. Here is a crude diagram of the current sensor routing. Again I just put the EBC in place of the MBC.

NOTE: The sensor port on the left of the waste gate is the lower port, the port on the right is the upper port. Wastegate is a turbonetics WG with the 7psi spring installed.

just hook it up to the lower port, don't tee or have anything plugged into the upper.

Alright, let me try it. I know with the MBC the WG would default to the spring rate with only the lower port hooked up. Let me do a pull and I will report back. Thanks Scott.

Ok, so I hooked the EBC directly between the compressor and the lower WG port. I didn't even make it to overboost protection. Instead I hit the rev limiter. The map only showed 183kpa at the time the limiter was hit, and it was still linear progression, until the very last hundred or so RPMS, then the boost spikes.
Is it possible that I have a boost leak somewhere that doesn't show it's head until an EBC is hooked up? Is it possible the EBC not staying completely shut? This isnt the GM unit, this is the new EBC from DIY.

I put the MBC back on for the time being, while I try to figure this out. The MBC holds boost perfectly, +/- 1kpa or so, all the way through to redline. Again it reached my boost level about 150rpms sooner than the EBC. I just wish it kept the WG shut to help spool.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

this is how you have it hooked up:

turbo > lower port on solenoid (side with two ports)
middle port on solenoid (side with only one port) > lower wategate port

Turn you Duty Cycle targets table to all 100%, and make sure your closed loop kPa limit is set to 0.

and under Codebase and Outputs X4 is set to boost control, not Output 1?

Yes
DC set at 100% across the board
Set at 20- should I change to 0
X4(JS2)Function-boost control-
but---When the ebc is hooked up, it is highlighted in a green cell at the bottom of megatune as "output1/boost control"
