diy boost gauge
I was wondering if anyone seen a DIY boost gauge? Would be interested in taking a map sensor and using it to do a DIY pressure gauge setup.
|
Why? They are so cheap.
|
because I can't seem to find an absolute pressure gauge around 0-200, 0-250, 0-300 ranges
|
Get a standard gauge and make a face plate for it? Other than that your bets are industrial gauges. Whats in a pressure gauge is a bent, flat copper pipe that's a certain thickness. It straightens and curls as pressure changes inside it. Thats the mechanical usual way. Your other choice is using electric gauge of some sort.

I've built a couple. There are a million ways to do it.

I was thinking about this as well(for different reasons)..... I find it kind of silly to have my Map sensor telling the AEM what the pressure is, and then I have to run a separate vacuum line(point of failure) inside the car for my gauge.
Is there a gauge that I can simply wire/splice into my map sensor? (its an MSD 3 bar sensor, same as GM 3 Bar) |
instead of running a vacuum line you want to run a wire? Is that the point?

Wow... thats uber nerdy... It'd be pretty rockin to have 6 of those under your radio, lol.

I have been looking for something like that. I personally want 3 of those to fit in a 2" gauge spot :P... maybe 2by2.

Auber is the cheapest way that I've found to get an electronic boost gauge. It is a bonus that the meter can be used to display a variety of things(EGT, TPS, temp, pressure, etc.). The built in programmable alarm driver is worth the price of admission. Set alarm for low oil pressure, high temps, combine to get an alarm for lean afr's under boost, etc.
GM 3bar MAP $34.95 http://www.auberins.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=122 I've been running this for over a year, works great. The meter is $48.50 or $57.50 if you want fancy display colors. http://www.auberins.com/index.php?ma...c7ee21e0b51d54 |
DVCN, that seems like an amazing setup!!!

Can an electric gauge be spliced into the MAP sensor output on a megasquirt?

Is there a gauge that I can simply wire/splice into my map sensor? (its an MSD 3 bar sensor, same as GM 3 Bar) I have an AEM wideband so I figured I may as well go with an AEM electronic boost gauge. I can't speak for any other brands but... Open up the box and VOILA. It comes with a 3.5bar Map Sensor that the gauge uses. Wire now goes from map sensor, to gauge, then from gauge to ECU. No extra vacuum lines anywhere. I ended up Paying $150 bucks for the gauge and it comes with a MAP sensor...great deal |
this thread gives me a few more options for my setup

I wonder if my adaptronic can send out custom voltage outputs.
What i have in mind is buying a volt meter gauge, have an output that shows kpa as volts. 20kpa being .20volts, 100kpa being 1.00 volts etc. Same thing with temp for incoming intake temp and coolant temp that the ecu sees...again . volts using the same gauge. Being able to switch around with a flip switch. |
