DIY intercooler fitment question
I was just wondering if this will fit on my 91 with a/c and p/s. i ve been looking at other peoples set ups such as braineacks old and new setup but i want something that will fill the mouth better. anyone have any experience with this size that can give me some insight as to whether this will fit my car or not?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/28x7x...mZ370194222240 thanks, Dave |
its a universal kit. you make it fit.

I think anyone asking "will this fit" followed by a link to an eBay ad should be banned.

well i guess my question was more wheteher or not the actually core will clear the powersteering and a/c. ive been around long enought to know to search first and everything. im doing all the piping and such myself. i just want to know if the core is too big for my application. nothing more than that. im sorry if i didnt make that clear in the original post. i just want to know if the core will fit or if anyone else has had sucess with this size with a/c and p/s

Just get under the car with a measuring tape, that's what I did.

the 7" tall intercooler will get in the way of the AC system. I believe you can fit a 5.5" tall intercooler with minor movement of the AC condenser.

i ended up ordering a 28x7x2.5 with a universal piping kit and bov. so we will see how it turns out. ill take a bunch of photos of the install and maybe make a Diy intercooler tutorial. i feel like i havent really contributed to the forum and i know that ive asked alot of questions and recieved alot of help and havent really given back to the forum. so at the least ill take some photos of the install

Cool man go for it. Always good to see pictures and what not. The biggest issue as mentioned, plumbing aside, will probably be clearing the a/c condenser.

Im in the same place you are ill probly order the same kit you did im excited to see what you do.
Im sort of worried about its size. I hope it doesnt cause any over heating problems because it covers the radiator so much. |

Its been over a year now since I drove it last. Everything is covered in hardcore dust down at the bodyshop still waiting for paint. I need to get going on that...:vash: |
I only use the :vash: smiley every month or so, and I laugh every time knowing you still haven't driven your car, makes the smiley that much better.

radiator is out in this picture but there is plenty of room for a condensor also
(this is with a veilside kit and i/c mounted infront of the front bumper beam) |
I have the 22X5.5x2.5 core (27x5.5x2.5 overall) intercooler, and had some fitment issues (mostly the condenser), but was able to work around all of them.
You'll have to move the condenser up a bit, but all you have to do is unbolt all of the mounting brackets on the lines (temporarily), then loosen the clamp that holds the condenser and push it up. It'll move 1-1.5 inches up, then clamp it back down. You may also have to VERY GENTLY bend some of the lines, too. I used some pieces of aluminum to make spacers along with longer bolts to re-use the brackets on the A/C lines so they'd still be properly clamped down. I can see a 7" core working, it'll just have an inch or two behind the bottom of the "mouth". Should still tuck up under the bottom of the car though I think. |
Here's another option on ebay. It's 24x6x2.5. It's a few inches smaller than most other ebay intercoolers. I have a 96 and I'm keeping A/C and P/S. Ordering this in the next few days.
